PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

Could this potentially be used to test different RSX overclocked firmwares without having to worry about the need to refresh if it's unstable?

No. That symbol is used to mount USB0 from the stage0 or stage2 in CFW.

Some uses are:
-read flag files from FAT32 devices change the behavior of Cobra payload. e.g. disable cobra, disable syscalls, etc.
-load custom kernel payloads from USB or bypass loading of stage2
-load custom kernel plugins or vsh plugins from USB
-bypass loading of kernel plugins or vsh plugins from USB

The patches for RSX overclock reside in lv1.self stored in CoreOS area of the flash memory.

To change lv1.self is necessary to install a PUP (ideally an update PUP) or flash COS area manually with a custom patch (task that is very risky and can brick your console).

The update PUP would be the safer method, due it would make only minimal changes, but so far nobody has explored this option at least publicly.

Gotcha, thanks for the reply Aldo. I'm just really curious to see if the different RSX die sizes have a stability difference. One would assume (and yes I know full CFW isn't available for them YET) the 28nm RSX in the last run of Super Slims would require less power draw, leaving more head room for overclocking.

Even the normal slim should have plenty head room.

it seems it is not possible to make use of the patched multis to overclock dynamically, cause it only belongs to so called 'first boot' probably this 'fir' shortcut stands for 'first'

but there is a main multi, that could be changed, which in turn could work dynamically. will look further...

edit
damn, RSX only gets initialized on power up. have to try to force re-initialization somehow

So long story short, my dad is into old revolvers and looked into electroplating and was telling me about it. I instantly thought of thermal applications after seeing this. My first project will be nickel plating a PS3 heatsink, so as that you can use liquid metal between the IHS and heatsink.

If I were to want a 500/725 would I have to patch the evilnat pup myself? and if so, what's the best way to go about that?

Hello, I'm new to this site and what pushed me to sign in is the interest in this project. I'm not new to PlayStation software modding environment, since in the past I modified ps2, psp, psvita and just a few years ago my Slim PS3 CECH 2504B.

That's not the focus though. I'm currently running the 4.87 CEX Ferrox Cobra 8.2 CFW with latest webman. I'd appreciate to know if Is there any chance the 600/750 pack could work on my system? I don't have an hw flasher at hand, and I understand the risk. Just wanna know if it COULD work, or if it would not, and what can I do about it in that case.

The safest way to apply this is to install an already modified CFW. Currently there is already a CFW EVILNAT 4.89 with this overclock. But I suggest you wait a little longer because EVILNAT will release a new CFW 4.89.3 with several improvements, and it will create a PS3UPDAT.PUP already with this overclock. The official launch will be soon.

I see. Thank you for replying. Considering that as I said before, I'm running this 4.87 CFW Ferrox with Cobra 8.2, how can I get to the incoming evilnat 4.89.3? Am I going to lose any data? Is it as simple as getting the new PS3UPDAT.PUP and letting the console install it?

It will only be necessary to place the update on a USB device FAT32/MBR, pendrive or external HD. And update by storage. Nothing will be lost.
