PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

It's interesting. Sometimes I got "80028f14" event on default clocks. Now I have 600/750, in my vision I have this error with the same probability
when do you get this error? like what game or app or you using for this error to happen?

Hello everybody, first time posting here, but I've been following this thread and forum for some time and I wanted to chime in.

I'm first owner of a PS3 slim CECH-2504B bought more than 10 years ago. Only played some 10 games on it and then used it for streaming movies to my TV. Last year I almost sold it, but then I found this wonderful place and community.

I started using 750/950 B6 version and it proved stable, so I wanted to experiment for a bit. I've come up to 850/950, but on some games GTA4 in particular it started to crash. Crysis was stable at the time without artifacts. Temps were also good, around 65 - 68 at 37% fan.

Currently I'm on custom built new BETA 7 version with 900/900 as 800/950 also proved to be unstable at times and I wanted to mitigate loss of memory speed with core increase. Temps are still the same.
The only weird problem I get from time to time is, that sometimes on game launch from XMB, after changing iso from external drive, PS3 freezes. I have to reset it and then rebuild database and/or flash CFW again to make webman work.
I don't think it has something to do with OC, as this is happening on stock(500/650) and OC(600/750) as well as on older CFWs.
I've only opened PS3 once to dust it, but it wasn't even dirty as it was not used much. It's not repasted, but given temps below 70°C, I don't think it must be.

I suspect that something is wrong with the internal drive or the power supply, because external drive is 6 months old. What do you guys think?

LuanTeles did you manage to build CFW with mfwbuilder? I can help you as I've had same problems.
I noticed that the reason the freezes and crashes happen when doing webman stuff, is cause the FPS counter is on. When that isn't on in the xmb crashes don't happen at all.

UPDATE : Thanks to Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, I discovered two issues I hadn't noticed :
- While being at 700MHz/900MHz, the "Rebuild Database" function won't work as the PS3 do not reboot by itself.
- When trying to refresh XML/XMB games with WebmanMod, an error "80028f14" occur (but the refresh take effect, still).
- Maybe there are more anomalies to be found, but two are already too much for me to consider that 900MHz is stable and safe on a 2004B.

At start, I thought that this could be bugs due to Evilnat 4.91 still being in beta but no. Thanks to Charles_n_town, I was able to test 700/900 based on Evilnat 4.90 and those issues persist.
Lowering clocks values to 700/850 fixed this. (Can't explain why though)

Tonight I will test MGRR again to see if it continues to crash.
At base clocks, it seems to run perfectly fine. So no SSD issue either.

Friendship ended with Crysis. Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is the new TEST xD
(Nah, Crysis is a really good candidate too. I will now consider them complementary.)

These erros are not related to the RSX or Memory.... the cause must be other thing.

I've been having these freezes with xmb when trying to refresh xmb with webman. I noticed it freezes when the overlay is up with the FPS and temps. But without it. It seems to not happen.

I find this strange too, but lowering to 850MHz VRAM solved this. It only happens at 900MHz, on Evilnat 4.90 and Beta 4.91.
The most intriguing point being the "Rebuild Database" thing. I must force my PS3 to shutdown, then when I power it on the rebuilding begin. It just won't reboot by itself. At 850MHz VRAM this is no more an issue.
I can't explain it at all.

Maybe you're onto something. I'm also crashing with fps counter enabled, few times it happened while only using prepiso. I always have it on, because I'm checking for temps. I'll test with it off and see if it crashes anytime soon.

@Tanzu15 please use the edit button instead make multiple consecutive posts. You were banned for 3 days due this reason. Next ban could be longer. Thanks for your understanding.
I don't know how to do it. On the phone things are weird.

I'll see if I can somehow replicate this issue.

Okay I've found the culprit !
Indeed, it was not a VRAM issue since it happened again some minutes ago at 850MHz VRAM.
In fact, the culprit was just the FPS counter plugin !
When loaded, the "Rebuild Database" function won't work as intended. Same for the 80128f14 error occurring when reloading XMB/XML games with WebmanMod.
You were right Tanzu !

Still, the MGRR crash is probably VRAM related.

yeah as I suspected. The plug-in is known to have issues. Aldos might be able to fix it a bit more. I don't know who's responsible for making that plug in. @aldostools . Any idea what can be happening with the plug in? When it's not on. Refreshing xmb works, when it's on it has a likely hood of causing a whole crash/freeze.

I've tested several games and still haven't had any problems on 750-950

Which games besides Crysis are very demanding on hardware?
Well, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is a great candidate, from my experience.
Otherwise : Assassin's Creed 4, Uncharted games, God of War Ascension, The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite, Gran Turismo 5/6.

Wait. So you can't play ps2 classics with the OC?
I'm not sure about the reason. But before oc I've played ps2 classics a lot. Tomorrow I'll revert oc to check was oc the reason or not. Could you check ps2 classics on your overclocked console?
I checked pal and ntsc ps2 games - always rlod. As I have cecha00, I can play ps2 by hardware, but…

Oh I know your isssue. Go to the settings section. Hit game, and change the setting to normal or full screen. And smoothing set to on. That should fix your crashing.

As far as I know the VshFpsCounter is stable when it doesn't show the CPU/RSX clock speeds.

It seems that the search method implemented in the plugin is the responsible of the crashes. @Evilnat mentioned in X that he would be looking if he can fix the issue.

The author is the plugin is @TheRouLetteBoi
