PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

Well, turns out neither 700/900, 700/850 or 650/800 worked stable, Gran Turismo HD Concept would crash randomly when using XMB ingame, reverted to standard clocks and GT stopped crashing, shame too as Crysis ran perfectly at 700/900

Sorry for that :\ A 25XX not stable at 650/800 is rare.
How many days of usage does it have ?
Have you tried 600/750, the standard OC ?

If you have the opportunity, it would be a good thing to check the RSX revision of your console.

Around 782 days….thinking about it now probably a heavy factor on the unstable OC, and nope, GT HD still crashes at 600/750, maybe an issue with that game with the OC but not sure, maybe some else could try and see if it crashes for them, crashes almost guaranteed for me if you open XMB during the loading screen of settings or while saving.

2501A slim after trying 750/975 was getting some minor artifacts fan speed 35% after i changed my thermal paste and putting the fan speed to 85% is fully stable no artifacts no crashing after 2 hours on all this game tried sonic generations, Disney infinity, fear 2 and lord of shadow 2 this game weren't stable with a lower fan speed so is the temperature problem? After I hit 60c,61 stable to the GPU and gpu the problem starts after the fan speed begin customized to 85% it hits 53C and 55 on RSX stable it is possible that i can reach 800/975? With water cooling of course

This can indeed be a factor, but IIRC, RIP-Felix's 25XX has more than 1000 days of usage and seems able to support 700/900. Of course, it will also depend on the conditions of use, maintenance, etc...
I don't possess this game, otherwise I would have tried it.

Do you know by chance which RSX revision is in your PS3 ?
If 750/975 is already "temperature-dependent" to be stable, you likely have a CXD5300A1GB. Personally, I would stay at 700/900 MAX for this model, but it's your console.
800MHz core seems risky given the context. By experience, if you want to keep it stable at such frequency, you'll need to maintain it below 50°C.
My 2504A/0D/CXD5300CGB can hold 850MHz core stable for hours and hours if (and only if) the temperature stays below 70°C, which is easy to manage.
At 900MHz, it will freeze even in the 50°C range.
Given the diminishing returns tendency, I don't think that "stressing" a console like that is worthy.
So I keep it at 700/850.
But once again, your console your choice.
Even with sufficient cooling, there is no guarantee. On top of that, keep in mind the risk of bricking if it really doesn't support 800MHz core at all.

I wanted the extra performance so bad that i did 800/950 i was surprised that it boot up to the xmb with..... All screen begin colored with red black yellow grey and white stuff popping everywhere+ i know this gonna sound stupid but i tried playing batman Arkham city with it still no freezing or anything after 1 hour just couldn't se anything at the screen lol i think the max with (good temperature) need to delid prob is 750/950 don't know if i should push it any further to 850/900 thanks for replying ❤️

MITSU Sorry for begin annoying but it is possible that you could drop a 750/975 and 750/1000 oc when you can do it of course ty

You really shouldn't have kept it that long with all these artifacts on screen, you are playing with fire...
Forget about 850MHz core xD
You're already playing with the limits of your chip at 750/950 it seems.

If you just want to test these frequencies, you can use this :

https://www.mediafire.com/file/01frlguk9vzcgxz/750_1000_b8_PEX.PUP_4.91.CEX-PS3UPDAT.zip/file

But I take note :encouragement:

I freaking love you

GTHD basically crashes as soon as you move past the stock clocks or have an overlay on. That's not on the GPU though. The game does a weird CPU/GPU sync that gets fucked as soon a you move past stock. Thats one of the few compatibilty problems that come with playing with clocks.

Once again, thank you very much @Mitsu™ for the easy access to the OC firmwares!

I have posted a comparison benchmark YouTube video on Gran Turismo 5 1080p between 500/650 and 700/850 on a launch CECH-2001A Slim with less than 11 days of runtime. This overclock should be a realistic number for most PS3 consoles (other than 90nm RSXs), before encountering diminishing returns.

Looks like I can't post the video just yet. :apathy:
2001A is supported 700/850 oc firmware

Really? That's actually interesting. I gotta test that myself and see.

My console is actually a 2001B, it just has a bigger 256GB Hard Drive instead of 120GB. Yes, 700/850 OC works fine on mine. I think it's a decent overclock for the additional power used.
Do you just install the cfw with the OC or you have to work your way towards the level of overclock you want

Huh, good to know, seems that my PS3 does 700/900 then just fine as it ran crysis at those clocks perfectly, but given these issues, not 100% sure if ill daily drive higher clocks, never know what game I could play that don't play well with the OC, may use it play through for games that really benefit from it, reinstalling software doesn't take too long anyways

I have a question. When you are overclocking your ps3 for the first time should you go straight to the level of overclocking you want or you should use lower overclocks and work your way there. For example I have a normal slim that was released in 2010 and I want to overclock it using the 700/850 overclock

Yes if your model says 25xx then you should easily do 700/900. Zero difficulty.
