PS3 Ps3 CECHC sudden Ylod

Hi, about a year ago I bought a Pal 60gb Ps3 from a local store, no issues except for the loud fan ingame, but the temperature was lower than 70°C for both CPU and GPU.
I used it occasionally for 3/4 month and then suddenly it freezes in the XMB and from then it present ylod.
Today I finally had time to open it, clean it up and change thermal paste but unluckily nothing changed.
So i wanted to know in first place what cause the ylod and then if i need to do a reballing, change capacitors or even something else

several things can and do cause YLOD.
in your case don't try anything blindly, buy a UART > USB RS232 adapter ($5) and read the Syscon. It will give you some error codes that tell you where it is causing the error, such as GPU power failure or cold solder for example.

Sounds like a reball situation. You could try getting the errorlog if you want, but it most likely is going to be a difficult repair. Depends on your equepment, skill level, or willingness to spend the money to get it fixed.

Did it only freeze, or were there any graphical errors on the screen? Did you delid or only replace the paste on top of the ihs?

I had something similar a few days ago, but without the ylod. I put a thermal pad behind the cell that put a little extra pressure on the board and I'm currently stress testing it with no problems. I'm curious how long it will last, but the point is, not every fix has to be a reflow.(I wouldn't sell it like this though)

There are a few things you might be able to try, but if you're able to get a uart hooked up and retrieve error codes, you can get an idea of where to look without risking further damage.

By the way, I saw your other thread. Did you ever delid that one with the hot cell?
