1. Yes. The screen displays the message "
Cannot start. The appropriate system storage was not found." I am attaching a sample picture.
2. You were right about the clicking noise from the hard drive being related to a power supply issue. It was a strange case for me. I managed to diagnose it by applying voltage from a laboratory power supply to the pins of the socket and measuring the current from the hard drive socket to
Q6007.
It turned out that the voltage drops at
TH3401. The fuse itself, after desoldering, had a resistance of
1.2 Ohms when it should have been
0 Ohms. For testing purposes, I soldered a bridge made from a piece of copper wire in its place.
The hard drive starts correctly and you can hear it spinning. When turning off the power, you can hear a click and the head parking. So, it seems to me that this
power problem has been solved.
Nevertheless, the console
still displays the message "
Cannot start. The appropriate system storage was not found." on the screen.
I tried to boot it in
safe mode, but it's the same issue.
I inserted a piece of electronics from a damaged hard drive into the SATA slot and used this to trace the paths to the four capacitors,
C3412-C3415. There is continuity.
I also measured the paths from the capacitors to the
Marvell 88SA8040 chip on the other side of the board.
As I mentioned before, the
Marvell 88SA8040 chip has already been replaced with another one for certainty. I also checked the solder joints under a microscope to ensure that all pins were properly soldered and that there were no shorts.
Everything looks good.
The traces from the
Marvell 88SA8040 continue to the CXD2979GB. Is it possible that the
CXD2979GB is the problem here? Is there any way to diagnose it?
I have a few more questions.
1. To perform a firmware update from a USB flash drive connected via USB, which seems to be necessary after replacing the hard drive with a new one, do we need to have the Blu-ray drive connected?
2. Is there a way to check through Syscon if the console detects the hard drive, or is there a method to determine why it doesn't detect it?
When the console starts up, the word "FERROX" appears on the screen, but I have no idea how to check which version it is.
3. Is there any way to force the console to work with a USB drive?
The controller works when connected via cable, and the USB flash drive blinks its light when trying to enter safe mode, so maybe that's a possibility.
Thank you all for any advice.
