PS3 PS3 loud drive and lag

When playing my console will momentarily freeze and have the loading symbol or just stutter with low fps

Also notice the drive making loud sounds at times or when it happens

does anyone know what could be the cause? I'm not too knowledgeable on this stuff so appreciate any help

You HDD probably is dying.

You can check the health of your drive by connecting it to a PC and using software like CrystalDiskInfo to check its health. Just make sure to not initialize it.
