PS3 overheating with loudy fan noice and the solution?

Hi Guys , I need your advise for my PS3 Slim that gets overheated !
my PS3 CFW is Rebug 4.82.2 Lite Cobra 7.55 (service tool disabled) QA Enabled
when I turn the Cobra Off and and play my game folders using multiman the noise is not annoying that much, I tried to adjust the fan speed through webman on cobra at manual 40% speed but it stays loud and not enough to cool down the device as it turned off itself as overheating issue
so can anyone tells which one is less heavy on PS3 systems with less loud fan ?

CFW 4.83 non-Cobra OR Rebug 4.82.2 Cobra 7.55 (Cobra + service tool Disabled)+SEN Enabler 4.83 ???

That might not be a heating issue,it could be a power suply issue.How hot does the cpu get while running games? If it idles around 70-75 degrees while gaming then its fine.

Your probably going to need thermal paste on it.The fans at 40% should be at atleast 65 while idle at the xmb.When gaming your cpu is probably going up to 85 or 90,which would mean that its overheating.

Rebug 4.82 is what you should use.You can spoof that aswell to 4.83 or you can convert to dex.

you most likely need new thermal paste under the cpu and rsx chips, I wouldnt recommend doing on your own if your new to ps3 stuff

It's very likely the thermal paste, with the age of the console it needs doing. Your model is slightly older than mine and I have just recently had the same problem. Replaced the paste and problem solved. There are plenty of disassembly guides and thermal paste replacement guides out there, I can link you some good ones if you want, and a good paste to use would be Arctic MX-4 (Carbon based Thermal paste) it has excellent thermal conductivity, guaranteed for 8 years hard use as its designed for overclocking CPU's and GPU's, also as its carbon based it doesn't really matter if you get it places you shouldn't as it has no electrical conductivity so it can't bridge circuit paths on the motherboard and cause shorts.

And another thing to be aware of with this model is that there are a few thermal pads on some other small chips (3 if i remember correctly, though I don't remember what the chips are for lol ) they will need doing as well thought they are so small that 1 thermal pad could be cut up to replace them all. 3 - 5mm thick if i remember correctly

That's hot just for idle (I got these temps with the PS3 4K Pro MOD as it increases the CELL and RSX clocking speeds). A good temp for idle with fan at 38% - 45% is 50* - 60* ( Its not to loud ). I have mine set to 40% constantly and it rarely goes over 55% sometimes it can stay as low as 45* at 40% fan speed. You could try using webMAN to set your PS3 to similar speeds and that should keep the temps at bay till you can replace the thermal paste. (Don't use the dynamic fan control unless you want your console to sound like an aircraft taking off every 5 mins lol as fan speeds can increase erratically when over a certain temp and they are climbing quickly)

A simple trick you can do to tell where the heat is if you place your hand on the console and a lot of heat is coming from the centre of the console (This is where the CELL and RSX are) then you should definitely replace the paste ASAP before damage to both chips is incurred, you should definitely set you fan to some sort of constant fan speed as a temp measure. The most heat should really be concentrated to the back of the console where the PSU is.

Although I am not new, I damaged the connections of my other device's CPU,
I was in rush and not very careful when I removed the upper plate unfortunately [emoji22], that's why I am trying to avoid it and finding alternative solution, when I disable cobra, the temperature goes down, so I would like to find out what else or any new idea to decrease it.

Not really, your PS3 shouldn't be reaching them temps when doing nothing, leave it any longer and the temps will start to hit 80* before long. One of my 3 retail PS3's, a CECH4003A SuperSlim, had the exact same problem. Was getting getting that hot you could really feel it through the case of the PS3 and the heat damaged the Bluetooth on that console, it doesn't work anymore lol. Once I replaced the paste its never been that hot again. So i did all my PS3's at once.

Replacing the paste is sort of a must, especially in a PS3 this old and is essential maintenance or it will eventually kill your console. Plus if the console has never been opened before, years of dust been sucked in through the vents will not be helping the issue either. Lots of people put it off but it's not that hard to do, just be gentle when you separate the mother board from the heat sink so you don't crack the board. You just need a few essentials tools to do the job and a good tutorial on how to dismantle your model of PS3.

I would leave QA on, this is for if you want to go and down through firmware versions. Say you on 4.83 CFW and you want go back to say 4.80 CFW.

If you disable cobra you will have issues playing games in ISO format games and mounting games in JB folder format games.

Don´t forget, that all Slims and Phats, prior the 2100 Series, still uses the NEC Tokins, as i discussed in a few posts back, and these tend to go bad, giving you unexpected shutdowns, which you either have two choices, replace them or if its still working, solder tantalum in parallel, but thats another topic.

But what can help, in his case, deep cleaning, and fresh thermal paste and delid the RSX, CELL doesn´t do much difference, it only gives you more headaches than a solution for the problem.

PS3 Achilles heel has always been, poor fan control, the IHS and the RSX.

I would just replace the paste between the the main heat sink and the CELL and RSX, that should do the job for them and remember about the small thermal pads on a couple of the smaller chips as these give off some heat as well.

Just one side note mate, its better off to put a pea size thermal paste, it works better than the card method, just in my experience

Was mainly quoting the age because a lot of them have never been opened and the thermal paste S@ny puts on them is crap and as I found out with one of mine doesn't cover the the whole top of the CELL and RSX for proper thermal conductivity lol
