PS3 PS3 SLIM 3012B NO/Faulty BD

Hello everyone. I have ps3 slim 3012B currently has HFW. My bluray drive is faulty it wont accept any disc. I'm planning to just remove it completely inside the console. Would it be okay ? Is there any drawbacks in removing the BD drive when it comes to this model? No plans to replace it with new one. Thank you in advance for responses

Removing the BD has no other impact except that it cannot be used, it will not affect firmware upgrades.

Thank you for the response. I will remove it completey. I've just found out that the metal plate that covers the top side was rusty and the dust particles fall over the place thus messing with the mechanism and whole drive. I gave it a decent clean but no to avail. Doesn't work anymore.

I guess you could wipe it with WD40 and that would slow down the rusting process.
