PS3 Takes long time to delete games on internal hdd

This is a problem with big games like more than 15-20 GB. Today i was deleting Uncharted 4 from internal hdd. Size of game was 45 GB. it took 20 minutes to delete the game by Multiman. Multiman showed that files are being deleted and seemed to hang in between. the game did get deleted.

Same thing i noticed with other large games. Also after deletion of game. The multiman XMB seems to be very laggy. But after restarting it worked normally.

Yeah try to delete little big planet LOL that seriously takes like an hour. There are two things you can do to speed it up a bit though. One is get a faster HDD. The stock 5400 rpm drive is piss poor slow a 7200 rpm is faster. And the other is ISO's delete faster then JB folders or PSN installed games. Other then that not much you can do. But yeah multiMAN does tend to kinda freeze but nothing we can do about it. Used to be much worse.

Try using the unlink folder option in the XMB File explorer (Found in xmbm and HEN Toolbox etc). It's much quicker than multiman iirc.

It is but unsure if it would have detected a PS4 game to delete. There is less load on the system using unlink. Or delete with the PS4 before booking to the PS3. It is still gonna take some time due to large file size as is still a large amount of data to be deleted. Systems don't allocate free space the way a PC does.

I did read your other thread where you solved the problem, but for the record...
It was so slow because you was deleting thousands of files, and there is a tiny "delay" in between files... is just a fraction of second but when we multiply by thousands it makes some notable time

Also, in the PS3 i noticed sometimes the filesystem does some operation several seconds after you delete a file, in between that time the PS3 can be laggy
I mean... i delete something (a game of several gb)... and i can see how the hdd activity led blinks when is deleting (it happens fast)... then the led stays off for some seconds... but some more second later starts blinking fast for some seconds
I dont know what is it... but i guess is some kid of "delayed operation" to reassign the space recovered by the deletion

Anyway... my point is to stay inactive while doing this kind of things, and keep an eye at the hdd activity led
If the led is blinking... just dont do anything :D
