Ps3 weird problem about overheating

So, i bought my ps3 second hand from a friend, i trust him so i bought it without worring about anything. A while ago i opened it up Just to see if it was dirty or in bad shape, and it was fine. Today i turned the ps3 on and opened dj hero, after 1 minute and the ps3 beeped and the Red Light was blinking, i rapidly turned it off and searched what the problem was, and every answear was about overheating.
The weird part is that, the ps3 is very silent, and before this incident i even got Last of us playing for 4/5 hours without a break, and the ps3 was a little louder but still silent.
What could it be? Just a crash on the system? Or serious problem?
PS: the fans didnt go loud before it was shutdowned, im know backing up the system Just in case, for almost an hour and it is fine, very silent and no problem at all
 
sounds like YLOD. or on the brink of it. because if it is just overheating you would definitely hear the fans before it turns off.

please share more details. the model number, how long you had it with you, is it on cfw or ofw with version etc. whatever you can think of.

Also please check if your fan is spinning (go close and listen to the fan; check if there is exhaust air etc)

I dont think its ylod, because of no yellow Light,and the ps3 still turns on.
Its a slim model 2000, and its on ofw 4.82.
After that i backed up everything and turned off the console, and then ran the game again and the same happened, im trying to play for a long time and see what happens. The fan is working good, there is air coming out of the back.
The console had no problems, i have it for almost half an year and nothing happened, i played a lot when i bought it but now i dont play so often, mainly dj hero and guitar hero, games that dont push the hardware too much.
 
Could it be from the hdd? The hdd is very slow, maybe the hdd isnt working correctly, because sometimes when i turn it off the ps3 just hangs on the Green Light blinking and doesnt turn off

I'm not sure, but I think a failing psu causes rlod where it goes straight to red. I've never personally had this problem, so I'm only guessing as to the cause of your issue.

the start of ylod is something like this. ps3 becomes slow sluggish, random crash / shutdowns etc. Its not sudden most of the time. yours is definitely not getting off due to overheating.

if you are willing to try, then you can swap psu from a friends ps3. If you have a spare laptop hdd, that also you can try (I saw a ps3 rsod due to bad sectors on hdd). Dont bother reballing or any motherboard repair.

Also slim 20xx is like 9 years old. Unless CFW is a priority, dont buy a slim. Since you still use ofw, you could buy a 43xx superslim for a good price nowadays (last released model ps3; 2014 i believe) and be much safer. When i buy ps3 (like for friends) there is 2 things i check; 1st thing the laser (insert very clean disc it should take 5 seconds or so for the title to appear). 2nd try it for 30 mins to listen to fan speed (hot air will exhaust that is usual; but fan should not be like a jet).

Thats the weird part. I've played in many ps3, i've had 3 ps3 before this one, and my frienda have ps3s too. The ps3 works perfectly, the ps3 reads the disk in less then 5 seconds, and the air exhausted is Hot and the fan is not like ajet is very quiet btw. The ps3 is slow on reading save files not slow at all
 
I'm having a similar problem with my CECH2501A slim. Right now it's idling at 63C for CPU and 66C for RSX (Checked by pressing Start and Select in XMB). I am not sure if that's normal, but ever since I installed Rebug 4.81.2 CFW a couple weeks ago, switched from Ferrox 4.82 CFW, the system would randomly get loud and than quiet again, all while in game.Even weirder, when I play Need for Speed Most Wanted, a PS2 Classic, the console would stay quiet the entire time, and than 15 minutes in, it would beep 3 times. The power light would than start flashing red and green immediately. I turned it off half a minute after it started. Turning it back on, and then checking temps in Rebug Toolbox, the RSX was around 70C and the cpu was at 69C. I took apart my system yesterday and rebuilt it, including repasting the thermal paste, this time with Arctic Silver 5. There's no dust in it either. I don't know why the temps are like this.

I have CECH 2001 model, I reapplied paste under IHS of both CPU and RSX. I use rebug 4.82. Settings in Webman are

- Enable dynamic is checked.
- Auto at is 70 deg
- Lowest fan speed is 40%
- PS2 emulator fan speed 55% (yes ps2 emulator is very demanding)

During idle CPU and RSX is around 56 (because my lowest fan speed 40%). During gaming the CPU temp reaches around 62 but RSX easily crosses 70 and then the fan kicks in and runs around 55%. I was told it needed RSX reballing (because of the wide difference in temperature between CPU and RSX) but i choose not to do that at present. I can live with the sound (though ultimately it will definitely fail and then i will need to reball it)

I see that both your CPU and RSX temps are sort of matched and so i guess all you need are temp control settings in webman. Get into webman settings and play with it. PS2 emulator is very demanding and you will need to live with loud fan i believe.

If you plan to delid IHS, i have to warn you 25xx series are the start of a new CPU with dimples that makes IHS removal really tough. RSX is the same type and easy to delid. Play with webman settings and see if you can manage the loud fan first.

I just told what i usually check when i buy used console. Also i dont buy opened console (check for warranty seal tamper).
Anyway i guess thats the only thing you can try. Try swapping hdd first since its very easy; then a psu swap. This is all i can think of maybe someone has better ideas to share, i wouldn't advice a repair or reball since you are not keen on CFW.
 
I've bought a used phat p version with the top cover broken. It had a good amount of dust built up but I clean everything apply new thermal paste. One thing I notice is the wires are stiff and feels like they will crack any moment. Also every time it starts up it get super loud like a like a jet engine but settles down once everything is loaded.

The fan should be loud once you play a game. The problem might be the psu capacitors.
 
Yup that would be overheating.Probably needs a thermal change or you need to turn the fans up with webman.

If a ps3 or last gen console overheats more than once,it can mess up the cpu or cell processor which causes your console to ylod.This is known to happen to most nand models.
 
Ok, I just configured my Webman settings to what you said, iet. Just saying, in PS3 games, the fan would randomly change speeds, but the system would not overheat. It was only PS2 Classics (And I only tested that one game.) Now I'm gonna play some PS3 games and see how the fan performs. Let's hope for the best. :)
 
So I just tried Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD. Within a few minutes the system gave me a "console is becoming too hot" warning, so I shut it off. Than I tried a couple minutes later with Scott Pilgrim VS The World The Game. That is a very non-demanding title and should have been fine. But it too made the system give me a heat warning and shut itself off right as I was about to get to the power button. You may be thinking, "But KITT, did you forget to plug the fan back in when you rebuilt your PS3??" No, no I didn't forget because I heard it working when I used the system - After the fact that I rebuilt it. The fan's been awkwardly quiet lately. I don't know what to do for this.

In a last ditch effort, I put the Multiman fan settings back to default. Let it idle in XMB, hoping it would cool down to trying playing games again. No, it overheated while idling in XMB for a couple minutes. There is virtually no dust in it And it is in a well ventilated area. Last owner clogged the thing with dust, I know because I remember when I first got it. Seems this gradual overheating problem happened a little after I put Rebug. Either Rebug and Multiman caused problems, or this hardware issue was timed as a coincidence. This PS3 is an enigma. :(
