PS3 Ps3 will not accept any update

Hi everyone,
I have a CECH-2003B PS3 Slim, and I've been dealing with a frustrating issue. The console was experiencing random crashes and other problems, so I decided to format the HDD and start fresh. Unfortunately, I made a mistake—I didn't write down which CFW (Custom Firmware) I was using.
After discovering that the HDD was failing, I replaced it. However, now I can't get the PS3 to accept any CFW. The system is currently unable to enter the XMB, so my only options are to attempt updates via Safe Mode or the startup prompts.
I've confirmed that the USB drive's file structure and format are correct—it works fine on my other PS3. But no matter which update I try to install, I always get the error: "No applicable update data found."
I even attempted to install OFW (Official Firmware), despite the risk of bricking the system, but the console still doesn't recognize it.
 
I am not sure what else i can tell you. The console had a permanent CFW installed .But the hard drive failed so now the system has no operating system.It will not accept any CFW or OFW update files in order to install the os . It had a cex cfw os installed previously .So that is what i am attempting to install but i am either getting a "checking please wait" message or a simple "no applicable update data was found message" Its not an issue with the format of the usb stick or the file structure
 
That's what I've said, context is needed.

Like, where did you download the PUP file?, are you sure it's a CEX PUP?, which USB stick are you using?, is it formatted as FAT32 MBR?, is it recognized by the PS3?, did you try installing it in Recovery Mode?, etc.
 
I have tried multiple sources for the update file. I even tried the latest one from the official Sony site .4.91 i think it was. The file structure and the usb are both fine .The stick is fat 32 MBR(FORMATTED WITH RUFUS) and the file structure is PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP This works perfectly fine on all of my other ps3 consoles . The only difference is that this console was previously flashed with CFW . I only know that the CFW was CEX .I cannot remember if it is Nor or nand .Or if im being honest what nor or nand even refers too .. The stick is recognised by 4 other ps3 consoles both fat and slim .when i try to install an update from it on this ps3.I get the checking please wait .Which i have left for over 2 hours .It never finds the update file. It sometimes says no applicable data found .The usb stick is a bit larger than i would like to use at 64 GB but Again it works on 4 other ps3 consoles. I have also tried a usb to sd card adaptor with a 8 GB card.Again this works on all ps3 consoles but this one.

A 5400 rpm 500 GB drive from another ps3 .So i can simply aim to put OFW? I don't have to look for a specific Cfw? Since that what chat gpt told me..
 
It asks for 4.85 or higher. Trying OFW atm but still no dice,And its cex

Been trying this all day...Im assuming its bricked at this point

If you are sure everything is correct but the update still will not start, there is one trick to try. Right after pressing Start + Select to search for the update, quickly unplug the controller. Leave it unplugged untill the search completes. This rarely works but it is worth trying.
 
Unfortunately i saw this many times. And have tried it multiple times. Still no dice. My son has offered me a ps4 with a broken disk tray for this ps3.But its on 12.2 so not jail breakable .
 
HEN on PS4 is pretty useless besides Apollo for injecting/extracting decrypted saves, dumping EAP HDD Key (for decryption few partitions) and decrypting games which is damn annoying and time consuming process (pluses are i.e custom user patches, cheats etc.). Scene is in orphanage stage on it, similar with PS5. If you not interesting in listed by me above features, you not loosing anything. Just FYI.

And about PS3: If you wouldn't got error about minverfw 4.85, I could put bet on spoofed version, for which Rebug 3.55 Downgrader or Rogero 3.55 999 Downgrader was made to rescue from that situation. You can try whichever of them anyway, but without QA flag set, that will be brick (if mismatching syscon version) or will not work at all if that is really 4.85.

Sanity checks:
  • Use different pendrive, and try both USB slots.
  • There are also reports that PS3 rejecting blank HDD (with misleading error related to PUP not found), but accepting it if have small FAT32 partition (which have zero sense because PS3 will not use it for anything, instead wipe out any logic structure placed on it). I still not believe in that, so take that in grain of salt.
