PS3HEN PS3HEN - Official Release Thread (Homebrew Enabler for the PS3) v3.5.0 (4.93 support)

I have 4.84HFW with HEN 2.4.0 on a super slim. how can i update the firmware to 4.85 HFW? Install it directly or first install official 4.85 and then the 4.85HFW?

You can just install HFW 4.85 directly without installing OFW 4.85. Mine's had been testing with it and so far seems okay.

Let me rephrase myself. The BR unit is missing. He ripped off ribbon cables.
The console is currently really fragile as you won't be able to reinstall the update, So someone will need to test the 4.82 version on 4.81. I think it will work but I'm not sure or have tested so do not try as it could cause a soft brick at most.

every time i try to use hen 4.85 files with miniweb got this error
cuz my internet is very bad i use offline mode after delete this function

Try clearing cache and stuff (I doubt that does anything but sometimes works) and also reboot the console.

Btw you on 4.85 HFW right?

But you had webman running when you had that freezes ?
Everytime someone reports freezes with HEN it makes me wonder if they have webman running, you know webman is a plugin that is running at al times so it could intrfere with... everything you do in the PS3

Im not telling that webman is the cause of all freezes in HEN but some of them are caused by webman, and the people is reporting it as a bug to the HEN developers
Thats causing a lot of confussion, people thinks webman is mandatory for HEN, but is optional... most people doesnt even figures they could do a test disabling webman to see if that was the cause of his/her freezes

Another amount of the false HEN bug reports are caused by hdd filesystem problems... and this hdd problems was caused by freezes... and that frezes was caused by webman

------------
Moral of the story... if you have problems you need to figure a way to isolate the problem by disabling hacks and custom code

No webman / wmm, I've never installed them. Have avoided the plugin since HEN launched because of all the crash / freeze reports that were coming in at the time that were related to those plugins. This random freeze happens completely at random when I first boot up and click "enable HEN" but doesn't happen very often. I thought I had it solved for a while by leaving my USB unplugged and confirm browser close disabled, but it still can occur and I have to go hold down the power button etc.

Other than that one freeze everything else has been pretty much perfect. Everything in multiman that I use works and the old version of Retroarch I have installed runs solid. I too think webman might have something to do with the crashes and freezes that other people experience, that's why I've avoided it lol. Might also be some people have a lot of different homebrews all installed and running alongside it too I guess. No expert on that stuff but based on reports I'd say it's a possibility.

Would like to add that I don't quite understand why a lot of people want stuff like PSNpatch / PSNinja / Rebug toolbox installed. AFAIK so long as you are not using mod menu's in public and launching games that have modded eboots while on PSN, otherwise so long as you aren't obviously modding / cheating / being a nuisance you should be pretty much safe... I've opened multiman and retroarch a few times and used them not realizing I was still signed in, no ban hammer ever fell on me... Hell I even used TrophyIsGood to get the retarded bladestone trophy in DeS and sync'd up afterwards, no ban...

Thanks for the info, is hard to filter the bad report from the good ones :)
So ok, i got it... HEN have some random freezes that are not related with webman, doesnt happens very frequently but is a bug that needs to be solved

To me is confusing because i dont use HEN, but i been reading reports from users that had lot of freezes, there are some that tells they cant even use HEN because it freezes always, and thats some incompatibiity with webman (but they never thought about it and they doesnt even mention if they have webman running because they thinks is mandatory to use webman)
I also have seen people reporting problems in retroarch... weird but it seems this was also caused by webman because the problem was solved when the disabled webman (this is a proof that the plugins could create conflicts with everything)
And you are right in mentioning the incompatibilities in between different backup managers, the "golden rule" i use is to dont boot 2 different backup managers in the same session, if you do it there could be conflicts in between them, what you should do is to reboot the PS3 before using the other, but this applyes mostly to multiman/irisman/managunz. The point is this backup managers creates a "payload" in memory when you boot them for the first time in your actual play session, and when you reboot the PS3 the memory is "cleaned up" (and the payload removed)
But with webman rebooting the PS3 doesnt matters, is needed to disable it manually

Do HEN files from GitHub have support for USB loading 2.4.0 on 4.85? I've tried several times and the console always freezes. I took a look at HTML code and I only saw a check related to 4.84.

No probs lol. That's the only bug I've experienced really. It's a minor inconvenience but doesn't happen too often, least in my case. I just fear when it does happen, having to hold the power button and rebooting to recovery can't be good for the PS3 in the long run, but maybe that's just me being paranoid.

The most recent version of Retroarch gave me some problems that led to a freeze a few months back (Was happening when I'd go to search my USB for a rom to load.) Installed an older version v0.9.9 that had a different GUI and everything works.

In the developer files download on **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) there are pkgs that load ps3hen.bin from USB.
You were right. At line 80
Code:
if (fwv == "4.84" || fwv == "4.85")
I think they should update the HTML file on GitHub as well.

IIRC it was mentioned somewhere that the freezing happens because the kernel patches aren't loaded properly. This happens pretty rarely on older versions on HEN, but unless you enable HEN immediately after booting on later versions, it's pretty much guaranteed to happen. Starting apps before enabling HEN (again on later versions) pretty much causes the freeze every time. I suspect this is exacerbated by the HEN plugin SPRX.

Finally I got the opportunity to try out this version of Hen and I am having some issues. After updating Hen to 2.4.0 I got unable to play Atari 2600 games, Intellivision and Gameboy Advance games on Retroarch for some reason...does anyone know a way to fix this?

It has nothing to do with HEN 2.4.0, I tried Boxing (Atari 2600) game running normally.
