PS3HEN PS3HEN - Official Release Thread (Homebrew Enabler for the PS3) v3.5.0 (4.93 support)

Hi. How do i enable HEN debug mode?
Webman Mod wiki says "If the system is freezing after some event, it's recommended to enable Cobra/HEN debug mode to capture the system log messages using socat.", but im not sure how to enable it (i missed some options in settings?).

And no, its not related to rebuilding webman mod - stock one hangs on mounting ISO from time to time, and just now i decided to see logs of what actually happens there.
Its not even hanging - its looks like its just waiting for something (clock is ticking, animations are going), but menu itself is stuck (holding PS button does give "Reboot\Disconnect controller" menu, but it usually cant shutdown properly from that menu)

Thanks for help. I did solved my issue with building, but that wouldnt be possible without your help!. Now i have my localized lite version of webman :)
After enabling hen, go to HFW Tools and under development you can change the mode to debug. After reboot, enable hen and you will have debug output over UDP.

@esc0rtd3w recently i was working in a restore option for my Pro mod that is working pretty fine

So that's what i suggest for the next official hen
  1. Include a PARAM.SFO in the HEN installer.
  2. Edit the category_game.xml to exclude the HEN installer PARAM.SFO to avoid the user deleting the data.
  3. Add the attribute having on to the HEN query, so the HEN Enabler (from dev_hdd0) will only show if the HEN installer package is in the database.
  4. Add a second query with the attribute having off, so when the system is formatted, a new item will take the place of the HEN Enable icon (instead of loading the enabler from hdd this one loads from flash)
  5. Add the paths in the registry.xml for the having on/off attributes.
  6. Add a check in the payload: if the HEN TITTLEID folder exists, it executes normally; if not, HEN redownloads the PKG and automatically installs it and reboot.

By using this method the user can format the system and still be able to reinstall HEN and all of it's resources automatically.

Those are all good suggestions. When it gets closer to release an update, I'll contact you about that.

What about storing the PKG inside flash? I know this isn't Rebug but maybe the installer could be used from there? Like a format but reinstall HEN offline afterwards.

The current package is about 21MB and doesn't fit in the flash memory space. Additionally, for the PKG installation, HEN would need to be active, invalidating this possibility.

The team also prefers not to store files in the flash memory, such as images, xmls, remaps, toggles, and other files, because the flash space is very limited. Storing files there would prevent the installation of XMB mods, for example, due to the lack of free space.

Therefore, the best way, IMO is the method I suggested. It is very efficient, and I have been using it for about 2 months, and everything works perfectly.

Pretty much exactly what @LuanTeles said. The only thing we store in flash is the HEN payload, icons for HEN Enabler, and xmls for HFW Tools, Updater, and Package Manager. Also we install xai_plugin.sprx, which is tiny.

Am I not looking properly, or does the guide not instruct how to install HFW? It's pretty straightforward if you know it of course, but if you don't, or are in doubt... I've been looking all over for a written guide, not even the ps3xploit page seems to have that covered. I now had to scroll through a Youtube video to get the info I needed for that part.

HFW installs like any Original Firmware. I guess thats the reason its not covered specifically. I do believe its mentioned in this thread about putting the PS3UPDAT.PUP in the correct folder. But fair point, maybe it should be added to the website help.

Trying to jailbreak my ps3 slim on version 4.91. Did everything correctly, I think. Installing everything onto my use, in the correct filers and the correct folders in those folders, they were uppercase, I did all the install stuff correctly, I am SURE that I added the files that I needed. I was following a guide but when I activate the ps3hen thing from the menu, going into the package manager and navigating to standard, nothing was there with the message "no package files found," The file that I was expecting to be there was multiman, don't remember if there was a version or what version. I am absolutely hopeless with tech and need help.

It sounds like you want to install a pkg from USB. Make sure USB shows up on xmb, under photos, videos, music. If not, then try a different one and make sure its formatted to FAT32.

Put packages on root of USB drive.

Hi, I have a problem, sorry if this is not the right place to post it.
the problem is with my backups of "rayman legends + rayman origins - BLES", where to start the "rayman orgins" starts the "rayman legends" and never starts the origins, in the xmb shows two discs and only works the legends (folder: PS3_GAME) and origins (folder: PS3_GM01) not.
PS3: Super slim - HEN 3.3.0
tested with multiman and webman (last version)

Try mounting the game twice in webMAN MOD. If I recall correctly, I implemented this feature for games mounted from /GAMES folder and the secondary game appears in ★app_home/PS3_GAME or ★PlayStation®3 on CFW.

I think this feature works for ISOs too, but I don't remember if I tested it.

OK, so I got my Super Slim on after a long time, it's on Official Firmware v4.82.

I want to Install PS3HEN, but would like to get the official update to v4.91 first, is there any drawbacks on installing PS3HEN from the latest OF v4.91 vs OF v4.82?

Or is the same installing from either?

The install process is exactly the same. The only difference is that you can't go online without spoofing on older firmware.

If you install on 4.82 and then decide to update to 4.91, you will have to reinstall PS3HEN on 4.91.

Keep in mind that you can't currently downgrade newer slims and superslims, so once you update past 4.82 OFW, you will have to use HFW on newer firmware versions.

I am on 4.89 and I have had little to no issues with PS3HEN running on my Super Slim.

I do not watch BD movies on it nor do I connect to PSN with any of my accounts. - I have always treated modded consoles as completely offline devices.

I am upgrading the SSD today to 1TB so was wondering:

Is there any benefit in upgrading from 4.89 to 4.91 for PS3HEN?
Is PS3HEN less stable on 4.91 compared to 4.89 for Super Slims?
Is there any important home-brew that is now not compatible with 4.91 and PS3HEN on Super Slims?

Thanks

If you don't access PSN or skip the FW check using /dev_hdd0/ps3-updatelist.txt, there is no need to upgrade to 4.91 unless there is a specific reason to do it. Most of the homebrews work the same on both FW versions since the lv2_kernel is practically the same.

If you upgrade to 4.91 you cannot downgrade to previous versions. Although this feature is rarely needed by PS3HEN users.
