PS3 PS3Xploit Flash Writer (4.90 HFW)

Having an issue with the system dump to usb, all goes well and it says it has been written to USB (16GB, FAT 32 formatted, in left slot using 000 ending port on webpage and also tried in right slot using port 001) .

I get the massage saying the dump operation has been successful however when I check the USB (including hidden files) there is no file there. I do still have the folders for Ps3UPDAT.PUP and Autorun Icon and setup information on the USB.

Have followed steps in this vid exactly and everything has worked as supposed to up to 22:36

Anyone with some advice on how to solve this would be massively appreciated thank you!

right hand slot is 0. left is 1 (or 6 on newer models). try right (0) because it should be working if you installed hfw from it.

is there a non-compiled version of the patch by chance? I'm somewhat interested to see what its doing more in depth

The p3t used by PS3Xploit Flash Writer is the minimal patch needed to be applied to flash to allow CFW installation. The patch has been adjusted to match the ROS layout of HFW 4.90.

The full nofsm patch can be found in this repository.
https://github.com/littlebalup/PyPS3tools/commits/master/PyPS3patcher/patches/nofsm_patch.bin

The nofsm patch basically is a dump of the ROS with patched CoreOS, isoldr & spu_pkg_rvk_verifier.

There is an interesting conversation previous this release, about the subject in the following thread:

It would be nice to have the source code needed to port it to 4.91 when it arrives.

there is no source code. some files found in the pup file are hexedited to bypass some checks. these edited files are inside the patch.
What about the code that writes the PUP to the flash?
Also what's the format of the P3T file? Is it just the nofsm bin?

Hello,
Sorry for the 2 stupid questions but:
1. What exactly is flash writer and what it's purpose is ? I have CFW 4.90 Evilnat, with fully working and quiet console. Do I need it ?
2. I watched some videos about RSOD error on PS3, and I read it was some error in the NAND/NOR ? am I right ? And someone said it's good to have dump on the file or something like that if that error come in and you can fix it with that? Can someone please explain to me ? thanks. Also I remember there was one step when installing the CFW that was dumping something I don't remember exactly what, however I didn't do it (since I remember in the old day of 3.55 in 2011 there was just installing the firmwares nothing inbetween. So I just installed HFW from OFW 4.90 then I installed CFW 4.90 directly. I have CECHK for the record.

Flash Writer is a tool for installing CFW on PS3s running firmware version 4.90 (the latest as of the time of writing this). Originally it was written for firmware 4.85 but then it was ported to 4.90 because bgtoolset (the recommended method of installing CFW) had been offline for about 6 months, meaning that people were unable to install CFW on PS3s with new firmware through official methods. Some people used unofficial mirrors of bgtoolset, which sometimes worked, sometimes didn't, and sometimes bricked your console. Since nobody knew when bgtoolset would be back, updating Flash Writer was the temporary solution. Now that bgtoolset is back, Flash Writer is no longer necessary, since bgtoolset is superior. The only advantage that Flash Writer has over bgtoolset is that it's self-hosted, meaning that it can't go down or get taken down, leaving you without any safe method of installing CFW.

Regarding your second question - While technically not absolutely necessary, it is extremely recommended that you backup your NAND / NOR prior to running bgtoolset / Flash Writer. The reason is that if anything goes wrong (e.g., your console loses power in the few minutes it takes bgtoolset / Flash Writer to do its job) it can brick your console. Using that dump and a hardware flasher it's possible to unbrick your console in that case. The backup must be taken on the specific console because the NAND / NOR is encrypted using a key unique to each unit, so you can't just download someone else's backup. If you brick your console and haven't taken a backup then your PS3 is as good as a doorstop.

So since I already have 4.90 CFW, I suppose I've installed it with bgtoolset ? cuz I havent done anything connected to flash writer ?
I remember going in some website from the browser on the PS3 before installing the HFW.

Regarding the second question, I don't have hardware flasher, so even if something brakes, I need to find one and supposedly pay for it ? Wouldn't be easier just to get new console at that point ?

What about if there is new OFW from Sony in the near future ? Can I install that without dumping or doing anything different than simply installing the new CFW ? (If I am not mistaken, I remember it should first go into OFW 4.9, then update with the new update, then putting the HFW and CFW again, cuz I got error loop before when I tried installing the new version directly from old CFW one)
Just like I installed this one, or you mean it's more risky that way ?

once you have installed CFW, only install CFW pups after that. there is no need to flash/jailbreak ever again.

As Coro said, if you already have CFW installed there's no need to jailbreak again just to update it; whenever a new CFW is released you can just install it like a normal system update via storage. You can go back to OFW too if you want but then you'll need to jailbreak again if you want to reinstall CFW.

My recommendation is that if and when a new OFW is released (which might happen soon because it's been about a year now) is that you don't update to it and instead wait for a CFW based on it. Hopefully Evilnat would continue his excellent work. Also you won't be missing much by not updating immediately - at this point in the PS3 lifetime new OFW updates are mainly just new Blu-Ray keys, which are only really needed if you use your PS3 to watch movies.

Okay thanks.
Another question.
So some time ago, I used the app where it frees 8% of the HDD space. In my case (500GB) it freed some 30GB. So I used the PS3 like that for 1-2 months, and at some times those last 30GB were used as at some points my PS3 had 5 or 10GB free. After I cleared out some games I deactivate it, so I returned those 8% to the HDD, as it is stock. The problem now is that sometimes (rarely) on some games it freezes on loading, and it needs restarting, then sometimes when I try to launch multi man or some game from XMB it says error 8001003A and after I restart the system, it's okay, and I can go into any game or multi man. But after sometime it appears again and I have to again restart it. So the question is, is it possible for that to be from the 8% freed memory before that ? (since I haven't had any of those issues ever before) where I've fulfilled that space with games ? Can the HDD be damaged is some way ? Can I do something now to fix it ? Can I defragment it or something ? ..

offtopic but...that error means that the filesystem is not mounted. if you are playing from usb, maybe the cable is loose or usb port is beginning to malfunction.
