PS4 PS4 NOR ROM chip dumps are not identical, please help.

Hi,

After looking far and wide for solutions to my problem, was unable to find any. Hence my thread.

Some time ago I purchased a PS4 that showed signs of the NOR ROM chip being corrupted. I found three videos Andrew Paul made on YouTube (
) explaining on how to build a Teensy++ programmer board and to connect it to a SOIC16 to DIP16 adapter. This is designed to be able to dump the NOR chip's flash and afterwards write some new program to the chip. I decided to order the items needed and follow his guide precisely.

The issue is that every time I dump the flash memory of this NOR chip I get different dumps. When comparing them in Hex Editor I see that there are different HEX pairs while the majority of the pairs are the same. There seems to be a factor that is causing issues as the dumps should obviously the same no matter how many times I dump them.

I have tried using SOIC16 to DIP16 adapter and I have even tried soldering 30AWG wires directly to the chip and to the Teensy programming board, but the issue persists.

Do you have any idea on how to fix this issue as I have very little experience and knowledge on this matter. Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the link. I have validated a orig0, orig1 and orig2 and there are as expected some (4) DANGER and some (4) WARNING messages. Here are the results pasted in a text document. How should I proceed?

Do you mean redo the validation? I did that to be certain and it still shows 4 WARNINGs and 4 DANGERs. Something that is a recurring theme when looking at the other dumps I validated. They all show 4 WARNINGs and 4 DANGERs. I have not have enough know-how to interpret the data, so I do not want to make mistakes and proceed to flash my chip with potentially corrupted data.

I read the thread but it is about a ps3 validator and it only showed 1 danger instead of what I am seeing. :ambivalence:
 
All right, I have run the bluetooth patcher by @BwE and validated the patched file. There still are 4 WARNINGs and 1 DANGER. The second thing is that I still do not understand why my dumps all differ which makes me kind of weary to write to the chip.

That's not very good.

I am basically repeating what I said to CruzinGTO at this point:

I suggest you remove the flash from the board and mount it on a breakout board and attach that to a CH341A EEPROM reader. You will get the same dump each time this way guaranteed. Compare the MD5 of each dump to be sure. Check out this old guide I wrote for another forum.
