PS5 PS5 specs revealed today

Thats right but there is still time to come and it was only a developer conference to show some of the features that ps5 will have it is not a console reveal, it doesnt mean these are the final features they will work over the time and we will see the final ps5 reveal.

Obviously the BC wont be in hardware form so it must be a software emulator. And for them to that it must have been a top priority from day one, simply because it is a mammoth task coding one for ps2 and even more ps3 to run on ps5 hardware.

I would love to believe they are invested in that but I highly doubt it. Much rather they will spend more time on finetuning their hardware and sdk for next gen developers.

It just seems very unlikely when they an only get "almost all" ps4 ganes to run at this point.

Yes but the price is the key to win here xbox series x is more powerful than ps5 but ps5 is faster has more speed because some of the specs are better than xbox series x.

They already have software emulators for PSP, PS1 and PS2 on the PS4, these will run even better with more power on the PS5. So the only issue is an emulator for PS3.. I think with the power available and the fact a big selling point of the Xbox Series X is backwards compatibility they just might do it.

It's hard to know, we can only hope. :)

Your right. Its very possible.

What we know for sure is that it will be digital only and only a fraction of the BC library.

The PS2 emulator on ps4 didn't support alot of games and its probably not their priority to make it even 90 percent compatible.

Sony hasnt showed the console design or the controller design yet i hope they can do more like a fan event next time and not a developer conference like this time.

The team responsible of the software emulators probably is the same that was working in the emulators for PS4, PSV and PS3
They takes the source code of the previous playstation and "ports" it to the new playstation + improvements and adjustments for the new architecture

But that team probably is splitted in 2 groups, the "experimental" team are the ones that moves sooner to the next playstation (this ones moved from the PS4 to the PS5 more than a couple of years ago), and the others are kept in the previous playstation for manteinance for tasks like:
-bugfixes
-specific code "hacks" hardcoded in the emulators
-backporting new ideas from the experimental team
-etc...

-----------------
If you think in it like a long time project (that lasted since years ago and across different playstation platforms)... is like imposible they are going to throw all that work out of the window :D
Is just they are either going to announce a high compatibility in a special event for fireworks... or they doesnt have the emulators completly ready

Anyway, i think they are going to implement the software emulators along the PS5 lifetime

These are only the first features that we are seeing from sony there's much more to see in the future and i think both consoles will get delayed. SSD of PS5 is much faster than xbox ssd.

Guys you have to keep in mind that Sony will earn more money when they sell you "PS2 Classics" or when you purchase "PS Now" for "emulating" PS3 Games. So don't expect that PS5 will ever emulate any older PS Games before PS4, especially not PS3 Games, so the PS6 and PS7 will never do!

But are pretty much the same, booting the game from a real optical disc inserted in the real disc drive... or booting the game from an ISO (ncluded inside the official PKG)
I mean the technical challengue is the same, the biggest difference is if they wants to support PS1 discs is needed to add a CD compatible laser, but i dont think thats a problem and is not going to increase the manufacturng costs much, sony has been building optical disc drives since tenths of years ago

Also, the optical disc drive that can be seen in the leaked devkit/prototype photos seems to be "low profile"... is different and smaller than the PS4
So it looks they have updated it anyway, probably for good

Yes but just see PS4 devkit and see the final ps4 product there is a huge change, ps5 is going to change a lot as well in design.

If the optical disc drive of the PS5 devkit is a low profile im sure the PS5 retail is going to have a optical disc drive with low profile too
They are not going to step back with that component

Yes its going to be a tough war with xbox but PS5 is going to win this generation because it is faster than xbox when it comes to speed xbox has more power, and i think the price of ps5 is going to be cheaper.

At this point i would say 449€ ... and thats considering they are going to sell it at a loss
That SSD of 1TB @ 5500mb/s is even more expensive to manufacture than the AMD APU

I still cant believe they ditched the SATA support completly, i wonder if they removed the SATA controller from inside the AMD APU (at this point it looks that they did)

They would lose a lot if the price is 449€ because manufacturing of 1 PS5 costs 450€ sony is smart they are going to sell it for 499€ and i think xbox will be 599€ or 549€.

Yep, most people (and me too) is trying to be optimistic with the prices because we know they are going to try to reduce the price a lot... even to the point where they can afford to have an incoming of 0€ for every console sold, at least in the first years

But the real prices of something like that using PC parts would be over 700€
An AMD APU like that should cost around 175€, and the SSD are another 225€... and keep counting

Of course that would cost over 700€ if it was a pc because ssd of this huge speed are very expensive + GPU is very expensive because consoles will be first to have new RDNA2 GPU-s and the new RT system of AMD the Memory is very fast with GDDR6 its very expensive it would cost a lot.
