That is a choice you have to make. It does require reading to understand what you can do NOW THAT YOU HAVE NO LIMIT.
There are 30 different ways to do the same, and new stuff comes out daily. updates, and all.
Going back to ofw, is probably the biggest mistake most people make, and the forums are flooded with people that accidently do this (a product of not knowing/reading)
By going back to OFW, you lose the following options:
Ability to play game backups
Ability to have linux on the ps3
Ability to play ps2 games on ps3 (90% of them don't)
Ability to play homebrew games that aren't available
Ability to real time edit/mod your games
Ability to control your own temps of your console
Ability to modify your system further
Ability to access Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, etc w/o PSN Access
Ability to play retro games, like nintendo, atari, turbografx16, sega genesis, etc
Ability to play movie backups that were cinavia protected
Ability to play any region game, movie, or disc
Ability to back up your games
and much much more.
The 15-30 minutes of reading is FAR worth the features.
You don't understand reactpsn and psnpatch? That's fine. Move on from that subject, and come back to it. PSNPatch being more useful to help you with your online activities.
PS2 stuff too complicated? Fine. It's not supposed to be running on your machine anyways most likely. Move to the next one.
The basics are. Your ps3 does everything OFW does, and a heck of a lot more. Now that you have 15,000 new features and no limits, you're overwhelmed.
These sites are also not dedicated to downloading/installing games you did not purchase. this is part of the FAQ/Site Rules.
We're here to help if you're stuck on one thing or have a problem, but the step by step tutorials LITERALLY hold your hand through the entire process.
Especially with google, youtube, and several scene sites that have the same information parroted across it, and explained in further details in the comments below......there's a wealth of information to anyone who has the ambition to actually care about their console.
I wish you the best of luck on whatever you decide, but I had the same problem being overwhelmed 3 years ago, and with a little reading, it's gotten a long way. I recommend the same.
