This is my standard first response.
But since this tends to get this reaction...
...I'll go one step further and tell you exactly what to do.
- Use this tutorial to dump Your SYSCON errorlog. You can use PS3 Advanced tools to do it, since your console currently boots.
- Read the FAQ to catch up to speed on the YLOD. Specifically what the YLOD is. It only flashes yellow once, then red indefinitely. That FAQ has a video of what it looks like and lots of information about what we know. But that first post is a collection of all of this, plus other useful research and links. Kind of a highlight reel. But there's defiantly a lot of info.

After reading a bit through the FAQ, looks like the most recent ones are NEC/TOKINS related problems, but I posted it anyways just to make sure, those crashes for what I remember ocurred while playing Black Ops 1 on Call of the Dead and whenever a cinematic played on God of War.
On an additional note: Today about half an hour before I dumped the error log, I attempted on playing Black Ops 2 but the game crashed with a really fast spinning system fan and just some flashing red lights (no yellow light at all), and that didn't appeared neither on the log, what does that mean?

Hi all so I've received a ylod ps3 today from ebay and was getting it read to use syscon error reading with ttl and i saw that the ps3s rx and tx pads have been ripped of this is why i hate buying consoles without the warranty but they said it was still inact as i only buy ones with warranty intact as i know im most likely going to get it running, so it has a 4seconds till ylod any higher professional than me like rip felix point me in the right direction i did see something about the amount of second but lost it and dont want to start on it yet till im sure of the problem cheers

what model board is it? there's a separate, harder to solder to spot for rx and tx, but at least it might be possible…

sounds like it overheated, probably the cpu needs delid.
Yeah, bad tokins. Your YLOD happening in stressful games is the usual symptom. Good to confirm it with SYSCON before replacing. It's also useful to have that becount information to get a sense of how long they are lasting before failure.
Think its cok-002 as its a cechc03 uk version

We're gonna need more than that, if you want meaninful advice.
Does it have a YLOD or are you thinking of preventative maintenance? I assume you mean the original guide to replace tokins.
But to answer in general, no most of the time this guide is not helpful beacause it's usually an BGA/bump defect, not the tokins. You need to diagnose the YLOD before deciding how to fix it.
My ps3 sometimes starts up normally and stays on.
Sometimes it turns on and off shortly after with the red LED flashing.
Sometimes I can turn on the ps3 and if I try to run ps2 games from the hdd, the console turns off (not with ps3 games).
How can i diagnose the YLOD / RLOD?

According to the service manual, page 21, the CN4009 exposes RX and TX on pins 10 and 11. The connector itself is depopulated, but the pads are there. SouthBridge's RX and TX are on pinx 18 and 19. The pins connect to test points that shouldn't be too difficult to solder to.
I wonder how difficult it would be to find a matching 30-pin connector to solder in there, since that would conveniently expose a bunch of other pins too -- southbridge, syscon, tristate, triggers and checkstops for RSX and Cell, as well as VDDIO voltages.

Has anyone had any experience with using this guy for cleaning electronics? Im cleaning my cok-001 with straight 91% IPA, but I've never tried this particular product. @RIP-Felix you're the in-house chemistry expert, what do you think?

Booter tried the connector pads and they aren't in continuity with the SYSCON pads we normally use. I think the depopulated some 0 ohms resistors to disable the connector in case someone wanted to just populate it. This is a way to frustrate reverse engineering efforts and save costs on production units.
Yes I have used it to help get the flux out from underneath the BGA after a reball. You need good ventilation. The fumes are bad for you. But it works quite well! I always finish with 99% IPA tho.

Sounds like it could be overheating. Does the fan get loud before it shuts off?

No, it doesn't get loud before, but some times after shut off when i turn on again the fan start at max speed.
So i think you are right that could be overheating in part, because if i turn on the consol after 1 day and immediately it shut off with red light blinking, there be something else.
PS. I forgot to say that also the motherboard battery is dead and i have to replace it.

You are using webman and booting PS2 classic games in PKG format as soon as you poweron the PS3 from ambient... in this case you have a fast shutdown
In the next boot (because the console is already heated) the process is repeated but the fan is kept at a higher speed under PS2 mode so maybe in this second attempt is not having a overheat shutdown
Anyway... that weird behavours of syscon fan control happens because the last time syscon entered in standby mode there was an incorrect setting in it
As a fallback syscon starts with the fan at 100% speed just incase (ignoring his own config)
I read the post, and my problem is in part that described by you.
In my case i always use multiman and ps2 game in iso format (but i think there no difference at the end).
I seem to remember that i checked the temperature settings with webman (they were on auto, i can post a screen shoot this evening).
Unfortunately last day when i turned on my ps3, it shut down right away with the red light blinking (i had kept it off for a few days so the consold was cold).
As i said before, i didn't used the consol for a few years.
Are these first symtoms of ylod or rlod?
