PS3 (Research/Experimental) - NEC/TOKIN Capacitors Replacement - YLOD

2031 is a thermal monitor.

2022 is a DVE (digital video encoder) error which certaily backs up your observation of blinking video. Although DVE is promarily for the analog video output, @vyktormvmpay25 and I have been speculating it could cause issues with HDMI output as well. We're not sure how independent the DVE and HDMI Transmitter are from one another. They may share some common function that prevents them from working without the other in proper working order.

Your blinking, intermittent video issue sounds like it could be the electrolytic AV capacitors. You could check their ESR to see if they need replaced.

lol, maybe I'm misremembering! That's probably why I couldn't find that feature on wmm yesterday, I was thinking maybe i was missing a module or something.
thank you for your answers, "overheating" would it do it all the time? I threw blue ray disc movie (LOTR)in 1920p, it didn't turn off for the whole movie? Besides that, I never get a message that it's overheating.

is the fan working? does it power on soon after is shutdown?

No, that's exactly what's weird, the fan turns very slowly. I feel like it turns off when the fan wants to go up a speed, like the console can't power the fan. A few days ago, I removed the plates that hold the motherboard cooler to test the fan and indeed, it accelerates so it works. I do not understand

So can you describe the issue in more detail?

How does the console behave? Is it a YLOD? How long after turning on? What's the console history?

BTW SYSCON errorlogs will be needed to diagnose a YLOD, if that's what's going on.

Can't 2022 trigger from not having the HDMI cable plugged in? Let's not get complicated. Try a new HDMI cable. If that doesn't work, external connectors are always common failure points from people tripping on cables and such. I'd throw some lead on the HDMI connector pins and give it a fresh flow, too. The frequent and "back to back" triggering of the error code with symptoms screams poor connection to me.

If it's still doing it after that, then I'd move on to "real" diagnostics.

if it is overheat then when power off you cant turn it on imidietly. the red light will blink. also if the console cut power when higher rpm is needed thats a hardware error. but it could be overheating error if the paste is realy bad check it to see

Hello and thank you
I changed the thermal paste so it's good. And not when it suddenly cuts, there are 3 beeps and red light, but I can start it without problem with the message "your system did not shut down properly etc.
What's weird is that I can stay on the game menus for a very long time but as soon as I start playing (graphics engine) it goes from 1 min to 10 min. I tried "resistance", it seems to pass better than the others. I also changed HDD to test (before: 7400 after 5400 rpm) Thx

Aaaand... it turns out there's something funny with either my hdmi cable or AV switcher -- testing a different cable or bypassing the switcher solves the issue. I haven't had any more errors since the 25th, so I'm going to do some more stress testing and see if anything breaks.

are you sure is going red light or its yelow to redlight?

If you post your SYSCON errorlog, we may actually be able the help you. Describing how the console behaves is useful, but only so far.
Hi Felix and others
I don't have syscon, my console is not in cfw or hen, precisely I hesitate to install it since it is not very stable, I would not like it to cut off during flashing which could brick it. I'm already asking if anyone has had a similar problem. I recap, before it did not start, so I changed the 2 caps nec tokin (rsx, those recommended by Naked_Snake), after it started, friends unfortunately after 15-20 min (cold) it goes out with three beeps and red light. Big thx.
Edit : Model CECHL PHAT

Hi @Djudju ...to get your PS3's Syscon error log you don't need CFW or HEN, infact you don't even need the PS3 to turn on. Here is Felix's guide on how to do it. Start at "If your console doesn't turn on" ...have a read through the guide, opening all the "Spoiler" tabs and you will get a good idea of what it's about:-
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/r...s-replacement-ylod.25260/page-192#post-295119

The Syscon error log from your PS3 will help you identify the problem.

I finally have my diagnostic sheet tuned in to where I like it in terms of readability. Figured this might be good to post here as well, and maybe save even more innocent TOKINs from the slaughter. Feel free to save a copy and tune it to your own preferences. But moving forward, it might be a good idea for anyone showing up to this thread for advice to fill as much of that out as they can and post a picture with any of their questions.

https://www.squeept.com/junk/diagnosis.xls

edit: print in landscape mode and it will fill a page nicely (at least on my Windows PC using Open Office).

I hope this is the right place to ask.

I have CECHE-01 PS3, I had been having intermittent YLOD for a while and it finally stopped booting.

I did the SYCON modification and was able to narrow down the error to 0xa0801002 which as far as I can tell is diagnositc for TOKIN cap failure.

I replaced 1 of the RSX TOKIN caps and was able to get it to boot and stay up. I can play PS2 games ( played about 1.5hrs without issues ). If I play a PS3 title it will crash with YLOD within about 3-5mins. But now I am getting a 0xa0801001 error.

I am wondering if this means I should change one of the CELL TOKINs or if there is something else I should do.

1001 is just an unexpected shutdown, which is expected since the console was on at the time the YLOD occured. You'll get 1001 errors if you hard shutdown the console with the back switch.

You probably just need to keep going with the tokins replacments. What caps are you using?
