Resistance: Fall of Man - the updates

Has anyone figured out a way to update the disc version of R:FOM? I know the PSN version has all the bells and whistles, but paying twice for the same game because of free updates is not what I'd call a good idea. Is there some way to install the updates via HEN or somesuch? Has anyone looked into it?

type in the title id of the disc. it should be on the disc or box and look something like BLUS-31277. you can also just type the games's name but make sure you match the id number too. get all the updates and install them in order lowest to highest.
It's not there (BCES00001).
The game updates weren't issued through XMB like with every other game, but rather through the multiplayer servers - you needed to go to the Online Multiplayer menu to get them. Once Sony closed the servers, the updates became unavailable.

i am reading that there were two map packs that were eventually made free. if you goto playstation store on the ps3 and search for them, maybe installing them will also add some or all of the new features. maybe they not available anymore but worth a try anyway.

Reviving this thread. I've had the same issue with both Motorstorm update 3.1 and then the R:FOM latest update (not sure of number without looking further). I think I've managed to find the MS update through some nice chap whos attached a link to his youtube video on the subject. Now looking for R:FOM (1) but cannot find this anywhere. My searching brought me to this thread, but I notice the link above is dead. Anyone know where I can get the update files I need? BCES00001.

Wayback Machine is your friend: https://web.archive.org/web/20210928115618/http://ps3.aldostools.org/updates.html

Bear in mind that it is an old snapshot of the link, so some things could be very outdated and not even working properly.

Thanks for this, however, I'd already found that, and neither Motorstorm or R:FOM are listed there. Both these games seem to be quite difficult to find the update files for as it needs someone to have updated the games with a console whilst the online servers were still running, and then convert that console to CFW, and then known how rare the files would become and therefore salvage those update files from that console for use elsewhere. Quite a rare set of circumstances it seems, so exceedingly difficult to find!

EDIT: Is there a way to offer up additions to this site where there are holes in the listings?

There is this homebrew app that runs on Python, so no need to hack anything: https://github.com/shinrax2/PS3GameUpdateDownloader

I've checked the game list and it has Motorstorm and Resistance: Fall of Man, but couldn't check any further as I'm not with a computer at hand. Maybe it's worth a shot.

I saw this early today, but didn't consider it to be the answer as I thought it was just a way of downloading from the Sony servers, but using a PC instead of having to use the console. Is this not true? I ask, because the updates for these games were never on the Sony update servers, they were held on the online game servers hosted by the game manufacturers. Of course, these are now gone. So no more update downloads available. I own both these games, and when I put the disc in to the machine and search for updates, they come up with nothing, and that's as far as it goes. I have DLC for both these games, and again, they are useless and don't work without the necessary game update patch files from the online servers. Even the dualshock 3 joypads don't rumble without the game update patch files! Very frustrating!

I'll have a further look at what you've linked tonight, thank you.

I'm putting out an appeal to others though. Do you own Motorstorm and/or Resistance: Fall of Man on disc from new in the earliest days of PS3? (specifically BCES00006 and BCES00001 respectively) Did you ever play these online before the servers were shut down? Did you update these games and buy DLC for them? Did you then convert that same console to CFW and save all your content for posterity? If the answer is YES to all of these, PLEASE can you reach out to the community and help us bring these games back to life in their former glory!

Oh, I see what you've meant. Indeed, if you can't get the updates from the console itself, that means Sony doesn't have them on their servers.

It's very strange that some studios held updates on their platforms, I've never understood why they did that. In any case, somebody has to have the updates and share them online, it's your only hope.

Exactly.

I think it's just the earliest games which suffer this. Before they had the standardisation of game updates mechanism agreed and available from the XMB on the console rather than only within the game once loaded up.

Link still works. No need to use webarchive copy.

Updates which was distributed outside "pantheon servers", for all such games are lost forever. Until someone still have those game data and willing to share it, so we could then make diff to determine what data was changed and prepare package with it.

UPDATE!

Motorstorm (BCES00006) is updated to the latest and last update released for the game!

The source I found for Update 3.1 for it was good and its all working, rumbling joypad and everything.

It is glorious! That game still holds up today!

I just need to get Resistance Fall of Man doing the same thing now.

Again. Any help from ANYONE on RE:FOM (BCES00001)?

I have both of those games updated and backed up. MotorStorm includes some additional content iirc.

What would be a good place to upload these files?

OMG! I never saw your post I was so excited about my Motorstorm achievement! :smile new:

This is excellent news that you have these. Despite my success with Motorstorm tonight, I'd still like to see all you have for that too. You've maybe got more DLC than I do, and if I can also have everything for RE: FOM too, that would be amazing! Thank you!

I'll make a couple of folders on my google drive and link them here so you can throw everything in there. I don't have anything else more public to use unfortunately and I guess email attachments would be too big.

I'm out right now, but I'll come back here as soon as I can to post up links.

Amazing! :encouragement:

Right, here we go, try this: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YwelKqtyfTLamE6PrcwQqRIJAXdPr8Ly?usp=drive_link

You should be able to see two folders inside there, one for each game. Editable rights, which I'll change to read only once the folders are populated. That way if anyone else wants to help themselves, they should be able to without risk of anyone deleting anything. Let me know of any issues and/or if you're finished adding.

Thank you once again, in advance! :applause:

I can understand your frustrations with psn updates/dlc. I'm a big tales of fan, so once I finally got around to buying the dlc for the tales of games, I noticed all of it had been taken down from the ps store. I was able to get some of it for tales of xillia 1 and 2 by going into the link to the ps store on the title screens. I don't really know how that works, because the dlc is gone nor do I know why it only has a limited amount of it. unfortunately, it only contains like half the dlc, and tales of graces f is a no go with no title screen option. it made me feel bummed, because it was up a couple years ago iirc. I've been trying to get all the dlc for all my games, and I'm down to about a dozen games left to do so. on a side note, playstation stars is back in America (they were doing regional rollouts), but I had to log out, then log back in again to correct the feature. thankfully, I got the points for all the dlc I had bought during the down time. anyway, it's very dubious whether or not an update or dlc that's here today will be tomorrow regardless of whether or not the ps store is still online.

I have uploaded the files. Thank you for keeping these files available for other people.

@Skire I see you've made some uploads, thank you! I'll check these out and come back with some feedback.

I've now made the folder read only for people other than me, but i'll leave it in place for others to hopefully benefit from. If i've got anything to add to it, I'll do this too.

I don't know how to make package files (yet), but i'll be at least able to upload folders containing file structures.

btw, @Rissy . check this out. I got this on here (psx-place) from @jcorrea, while I was still lurking:

it's a list of most updates, while probably not all. I'm sure some have been lost. anyway, you can download the entire thing if you using wget. wget -x -nc -i updates_v6.txt it will do al the work for you.
