PS3 restore file system cant work correctly on large storage?

I am using 4.88 cfw and Samsung 850pro 1T, the hard disk full scan has no bad blocks, and the SMART information is also okay. But I found that in some places of disk after I installed the game data, no matter what game it is, and then check the file system next boot, it will exit in the middle of 47%. and i uninstall some game data, it will check ok next boot. then i install some game data again,it will happen agin...

and i found someone say "the Restore File System will only work on a 1TB and Below HDD size and have to NOT go beyond 850GB of HDD size used in order to get that fonction work properly and do its task correctly."
But even if I use a 1T hard drive, there will be problems, which has never happened when I used a 300G hdd before.

While it doesn't affect usage, it bothers me that the filesystem check quits in the middle.

Maybe I should ignore this filesystem check? But it's like a bug that makes me uncomfortable

I've had a problem very similar to this before turns out my HDD had gone bad even though it didn't show up with anything wrong.

I know this cause i changed it to another and it fixed it.

So HDD either bad or its just compatibility issues by the sound of it

But You could try reinstalling firmware and see if the problem persists

No. reinstall fw wont let file system check work as normal, and i am sure no corrupt happen before, look seem just some logic of check file system go wrong.

Bro,maybe you can explain this?@sandungas

Actually this barrier is exactly 1.5TiB and for sure it works on 1TiB storage (Your SSD have less).

Mine is 1Tb. When I copy in the about 600G iso to the /devhdd/PS3ISO, it can still be checked normally, but when I install about 10G of game data, the file system check will quit halfway.

The game data I installed is definitely not damaged, it's like a waterline, when I install game data beyond this line, the file system check will quit halfway, but when I delete the recently installed game data, it is normal again checked to 100%,
But when I install any other game's game data(about 1 or 2G), the file system check exits halfway through again, and I never get past this watermark.
It seems that even if only 1tb of hard drive is used for a certain amount, the file system check does not work.

The problems related with high capacities can be seen in this table
The filesystem check gets broken over ~1034 GB
And over ~1649 GB you cant even format it (the PS3 doesnt recognizes it as a valid storage device)
https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Harddrive#Internal_Harddrive_maximum_capacity

Your SSD capacity is lower, so is fine, your problems are not related with the capacity
Some SSD's are problematic when used in PS3, but we dont know the real reason, for sure is related with the controller (chip) of the SSD... and the controller depends of the brand of the SSD, his series, revisions, etc...
Sadly we dont have a list of them... so is just a matter or trying them and see if the PS3 handles it without problems
In this case it seems your SSD is not fully compatible with PS3 :/

I guess the only thing you could do is to format it... just incase it have some problem in the filesystems (software). By formatting you are forcing the PS3 to generate new partitions/regions and new fresh filesystems

@jiang It is not and for sure not 1Tb (~1,2TiB). Can be 1TB (~930GiB) but only 1TiB breaks this functionality for some people. Learn the units...

Data is not written aligned to each other so You cannot say that this or this is the barrier after fs corrupting. On all writeable filesystems, fragmentation occurs, even on UFS2.

yes, I've already tried,

But after I formatted it and copied the game again, then isntall game update or something it still happened again.During this period, there was no transfer interruption or crash, so as you said, it is more likely to be a hard disk compatibility issue?

But you formatted it in the PS3 or in PC ?
You need to format it in PC because the PS3 formatting functions sometimes preserves part of the the HDD layout structure. We dont know well the details of how is made but in the practise it seems what the PS3 does sometimes is not a real full format

When you format it in PC (any filesystem would do the job, just format it in NTFS or FAT) you are really converting 100% of the HDD data into "incompatible with the PS3 firmware" (because the PS3 is not able to read a single byte from NTFS or FAT formatted drives)
The goal when formatting it in PC is to dont allow the PS3 to "recover" any data from the partition layout generated previously by the PS3

ok,i will try format again in my pc, thanks

Never perform full format on SSD because it will never overwrite every block. It s not HDD, it works in different way. For this was designed Secure Erase functionality.

get it, i think just fast formnat servial times on pc is enough,ps3 cant read previous info after that, right?

I'm not sure what Sandungas have in mind. Sometimes, for unknown reason, formatting disk on PS3 doesn't overwrite fully old partition table. PS3 using its own custom format and encrypt almost every sector if You don't know. However, in some cases for some reason, part of MBR seems to be untouched. It happened to me once on CECHL04, and I spot it once I'm looking a way to decrypt it in a time when encryption/decryption wasn't easy and even fully known (for a tutorial, if You are curious). But this haven't any impact on HDD logic, isn't in use, just a left over from another environment.

Maybe this SSD have issues related to mysterious incompatibility. Besides that, paste here S.M.A.R.T report.

Although the file system check quit halfway after installing the game data, I think it is actually no problem. Maybe the file system check itself is not reliable. If one day the system file is really broken and gets stuck in an infinite loop of repair, it should be possible to reinstall cfw to solve it?
and which disks have good compatibility with ps3 after verification?

i am sure that samsung ssd have compatibility issues,i have a backup disk of gamedata, i restore that to my samsung ssd,the check cant work.
but it can work if i restore that backup to my original hdd(and segate 1T hdd from my pc).
so which disks(hdd and ssd) have good compatibility with ps3 after verification?

Indeed S.M.A.R.T is totally ok.

Yes, having CFW, You can freely install any fw on any storage. And for You convenience, set QA flag as active.

i replace ssd to sshd,it is okay.
but i found new bug, when my 1t sshd left about 60g remaining, file system check will corrupt.
so i guess safe capability of hdd maybe 850g
