PS3 Restoring a CECHA

I'd like to know if it's possible to place the BD drive from a CECHA00 model into a CECHA06 model PS3 and remarry the drive so it works?

My CECHA00 unit has YLOD but the BD drive is working perfectly, however I am looking at buying a CECHA06 with a bad BD drive but not YLOD, thus wondering if it's possible to do?

Thanks! I'll go ahead with the purchase then.

One thing to note is you need a firmware that's exploitable on the system you want to marry the new drive to.
Let's say its on an older firmware, and you can't update the firmware to a version that's exploitable... You won't be able to install a NoBD CFW without an exploit.

EDIT - 4.82 is the minimum firmware you will need to exploit and install NoBD CFW

Ahhh, you know what I am thinking now though, wouldnt the laser be the main cause of all of the BD failures? I am wondering if its possible just to swap out the laser? Now I also learned that i am picking up a CECHA06 instead of a CECHC02, so literally same model as my CECHA00 just different region

you can create nobd cfw for any firmware with mfw, but be sure you know what you're doing. you can use an old cfw as a base or ofw. if you use cfw, don't try injecting patches that are exist or it will error. I've made a few no bd mfw for people with it.

If its the same model, its more than likely going to have the exact same drive.
All you will need to do in this case would be to just swap the daughter boards over. That's it, no need to remarry

If he swaps daughter board then he will have to remarry.
Only needs to swap the main drive not board to get playback working

I did realise this but hoped some common sense would prevail. Technically the drives need swapping.... I haven't actually done a remarry before. I'm going off old threads I searched for

I put the good BD drive into the faulty unit but made sure to place the daughter-board onto the good drive and system worked like a charm!

Now, I have to remember how to JB these units, since its been so long. It's running 4.75 so what are my options?

update to 4.86 and use bgtoolset.

Thanks i have bookmarked that link for later. Is there any benefit to staying on current old ofw and performing JB? i can remember reading that the newer the firmware the harder it is to JB, not sure if thats true anymore or not.

I would like to have this unit running similar to how my old JB unit was. I believe it was on rebug 4.81? Honestly its been so long since i installed any kinid of cfw to my console but it's slowly coming back to me the more i read into it.

Using the PS3 Toolset's Flash Memory Manager method, the jailbreak is the same whether you are on 4.82, 4.83, 4.84, 4.85 or 4.86. Those 5 official firmware versions are equally supported by the Toolset & you can use the one you want to jailbreak.

No need to worry about updating to 4.86 either, because once the console is jailbroken, you only need to toggle the QA flag using Rebug Toolbox or QA toggler to be able to downgrade to a lower firmware if ever you wished to do that at some point.

Would it be a problem that i am running 4.75 :P

Yes, it would.
4.75 is not supported by the PS3 Toolset, only 4.82+ are.
But like I said it makes no difference, update to 4.82-4.86, jailbreak the console & if ever you must for some reason use 4.75, proceed to downgrade.

Alright, looks like I must update my ofw first then.

I see absolutely no reason to remain on 4.75 anyway, there is nothing to gain.

If you wish to use DEX mode, the latest Rebug REX is 4.84 (you will need to spoof the fw version to 4.86 with SEN Enabler to connect to PSN) & if you only need CEX mode, I recommend that you use 4.86 Rebug Lite.

But if you really don't want to update your ofw, you can always go old school & jailbreak with a hardware flasher! It would be a lot more hassle though. Up to you.
