PS3 Restoring a CECHA

Any one know how I can further prevent it from dying? Anything I can do to help save the Tokins?

Woah, hang on a minute. In a healthy PS3, the RSX should be on average 3c HOTTER than the CELL? under demanding game, the hottest my RSX can match the temp of my CELL but barely (if ever) actually exceed it.
In a PS3 slim CECH-25xx should be bigger, take a read at the last posts of this thread

I dont know your PS3 model, not sure if you mentioned it and i missed it, but anyway, im not going to be able to give you an straigtforward answer because i dont know how much should be that difference of temperatures in a healthy BC PS3 model

My model is a Cecha06

I am wondering also if it's bad to leave the unit in stand by or would it be better to shut the mains off

If you own old consoles, you need to learn on how to maintain them. Thankfully, in the age of internet, its not something so hard. You got places like this forum where you can learn a lot of the stuff & tutorials by veterans. NEC Tokins replacement is not a hard job. Just buy some scrap electronics & practice soldering.

In standby you have the PSU partially working generating "5v standby" (to feed syscon), and you also have syscon active in "low power mode" (to monitor the ON/OFF button), and thats all pretty much
