RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition)

PS3 RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition) Beta 4

[...]Also, I can't change the Scummvm gui theme. There is only the old classic one. I copied some theme zip files (as libreto wiki says) inside system/scummvm/theme folder, but then in the Scummvm menu, when I try to choose a theme, still there is only the old classic one.[...]

I have the exact same problem + 2 others.
1) ScummVM just gives me a blackscreen and freezes the console when I start a game from a playlist (made it by hand; it actually works within RA for WiiU and Switch). I now copied over my ScummVM ini file from the standalone version. I can start the games when I LOAD the CORE itself and choose the games within this menu. But when I try to load the games via the playlist, it freezes. Target file is always the game_name.scummvm within the respective game's folder.

2) When I try to download ScummVM system files via Online Updater --> Core System Files Downloader --> ScummVM.zip it always freezes at 45% so I copied the files (themes and extras) over from the official build, but it still doesn't find the files.

Any ideas? If it doesn't work via the playlist overview, I don't see why I shouldn't just stick to the standalone version. If I maybe could provide some data that could help, I totally would. Just tell me what you need. :)

I recompiled the scumm core, but in the lite version. The drives inside are so many that if you compile it in the complete version the core will no longer start as the PS3 does not have enough RAM, without even loading a game.
An alternative is to divide the core into several versions to use the appropriate one depending on the game to be loaded.Let me know what you think about it.

Is it still the same problem or was it solved in the meanwhile?

Thank you very much in advance.

Best,
TuF

Games are starting and playing except they still have the bugs 2003 non-plus had.
The main one being no shadows on Mortal Kombat 2.
I wonder if that is being addressed.

I'm still looking for a fix to get shadows to work on Mortal Kombat 2 for PS3 and have zero luck.

FB Neo emulator has the shadows working but game is choppy and unplayable.
On other systems, PC and Android, Mame 2003-plus (and 2010) fixes the shadows.
But for some reason,on PS3, 2003-plus doesn't. Does anyone know why?
Any help would be much appreciated!

EDIT:
Just a heads up, it seems that PLUS is not actually loading as PLUS and is stuck as 2003 even though it is saying PLUS

@Crystal @aldostools How to compile RetroArch or cores for PS3 from Linux? I would like for example to compile `crocods` since it's not in the Beta 4. Do I need CellSDK from ps3linux.net? If yes then is it possible to compile it on Debian/Ubuntu or it will work only on Fedora/RHEL?

I've tried to compile but I get `Makefile.ps3:151: /samples/mk/sdk.target.mk` file not found error.

I haven't tried compiling RetroArch CE, but I think it's using PSL1GHT SDK. Here are various pre-compiled ps3toolchains.
https://github.com/aldostools/resources?tab=readme-ov-file#pre-compiled-development-sdks-for-ps3

I use PS3 and PSL1GHT SDK on Windows + msys and mingw. For some tools I use cygwin.

looking at the Makefile.ps3, I think it uses cell sdk rather than psl1ght and the toolchain, but I could be wrong: View attachment 44657

The RA cores originally were compiled using PS3 SDK. That's why it was removed from the official site.

I thought Crystal was using the code ported to PSL1GHT. However, it seems that he used the version based on the official SDK.

In this case, the leaked PS3 SDK is needed. The links cannot be provided.

I don't personally have the cell sdk, so I can't try it out. I know retroarch is often a pita to compile. I've been able to compile retroarch cores for wiiu, but I was never able to compile the unofficial PS4 version. It can be a confusing compile with dependencies.

You'll probably be able to compile in Linux. Like I mentioned, I haven't used the cell sdk, but I've used psl1ght on wsl v2/Ubuntu 20.04, which is my main distro. No issues with it.

@aldostools But aren't the packages on ps3linux.net an official PS3 SDK?

@Charles_n_town So you were able to successfully compile RetroArch with psl1ght in Ubuntu? Are there any other patches needed than in RetroArch CE repo?

And does anyone know the reason why there are no precompiled RA cores using psl1ight? I also do not understand why they had to remove the ones compiled using leaked PS3 SDK - is it because lawsuit threats from Sony?

No, it's using the official sdk/cell sdk, so you need that. And, yes, it's illegal to share it.
But as I understand, cores (or other software) compiled using this SDK are legal to share and that is why there is RA pkg available to download here and on Homebrew?

Added CROCODS core.... just go to download cores....
