I am having an odd issue with an SCHP-30001 reading discs. When a disc is put in the drive, the laser shines once on the disc, the spindle motor starts spinning the disc, then the laser never shines again (that I can tell anyway) but you can hear it clicking like it is trying to focus as the disc is spinning at a few different speeds in what I assume to be an attempt to read the media. It was having the same issue prior to replacing the BA5815FM but I replaced that chip thinking that might be the cause of the issue (is it possible I just replaced it with another bad chip?). I'm hoping someone might cause the laser to shine once when it first gets the disc then not again afterwards.
A few side notes:
-I tried 3 different lasers (2 new ones and the one that was originally with the unit)
-Testing continuity on all pins on the laser ribbons (seems ok)
-Disc I am using to test is the same one I tested in another unit and it reads fine
-This problem feel very much like an issue I am having with 2 PS Ones that won't read with new lasers unless I turn the impedance down a great deal but those same lasers at factory impedance read great on a known working PS One. I haven't tried turning the impedance down on these new lasers as I'd rather not burn them out if I can help it.
