Stuck in 8002f14e loop, which BD daughter board required?

Hi all, I have a CECHA01 with a non-functioning blu ray drive (BD). I wasn't aware that trying to update the firmware would result in an infinite loop if there was a problem with the BD, and unfortunately am now stuck with the 8002f14e error after attempting to install HFW.

I bought this system cheap on Ebay, and it looks like someone ripped the BD out from the motherboard because the plastic clip where the ribbon cable attaches has broken, so I need to stick the cable in with tape for a connection. This does not solve the problem, and therefore I believe the BD is indeed broken somehow.

However, I swapped the BD for one in great condition from a CECHE01 with the same daughter board model BMD-001, and still cannot get past the check. The new BD drive is not exactly the same, despite being BMD-001, and I have included a photo of them side by side below. The old BD (assumed broken, left) has a '3' on it, and the new one (right) has a '4' (sorry not obvious from photo). My question is, does this matter? Should the BMD-001 version 4 be able to pass the check when the original BD was BMD-001 version 3?

If it should pass the check with this new version, then I know the problem is something else. Many thanks

Alex
