PS3 Super Slim Performance Improvement

I have a Super Slim 12gb. It's not jailbroken and I was playing NFS MW 2012 on it. Does dropping the resolution from the display settings help with improving performance on a ps3? On pc's, my first go to for improving the fps is dropping the resolution but for some reason it's not helping much on my ps3 with either 576p or 720p resolution settings. The console heats up instantly and the fps often drops during gameplay. I have cleaned it thoroughly and replaced the old thermal paste with cryofuze and that didn't help either…

No, that doesnt work out. The RSX renders internally always at the same resolution. The displayed resolution ist just up or downscaled by the av or hdmi chip (i guess). So when it comes to performance the output resolution doesnt effect anything.

What is the resolution the RSX internally renders games in?

Some games, like GT, have a boost in FPS when played at lower resolutions. However, most of them have a static resolution, meaning they are rendered at the same internal resolution regardless of the output resolution.
The internal resolution varies from game to game.

yeah it may be possible that some games do have another internal resolution. Maybe some guys do know a little bit more about that and can confirm.
I think most games are rendered either at 480p or 720p, but i dont know for sure.
I guess we all can agree that in most cases its not gonna effect fps if you choose lower resolutions. Lets keep it simple and say theres no advantage about that.
But there is another thing that really boosts your fps and that is overclocking. Think he should try this instead of messing around with his resolution outputs

I don't have enough technical knowledge on overclocking any systems, I also don't care much about the fps, 24-27 fps is fine for me. What I was trying to achieve was lower temps and if possible, lower overall load on the chips. Lowering the graphics settings, especially the resolution helps with that in case of pc gaming so I thought I'd try what I can on the ps3… I'm more inclined towards my super slim's life than performance. I plan on finishing the more demanding games/exclusives on the emulator anyway once I get a system powerful enough for the emulator…

alright. the problem about comparing to a pc is called architecture. things work differently on pretty much every console so it doesnt follow that logic. you have to look at the chips separately, the RSX is always rendering at the same "level" and the game decides how much load it puts on it. your displayed graphics quality is given by the DVE chip in last instance. so as we said before, there is not much you can really do about that. keep your system clean and cool, repaste the chips every year and i think thats the best you can do to keep the wear on the chips low. enjoy full HD games, that doesnt harm the chips and does not increase the load on a particular chip.

can you do that on super slim?
In theory you can. You can change the config ring via UART, but thats difficult to do and as far as i know nobody knows how to do that exactly. So practically spoken its not available on superslims yet due to we are not able to install full CFW.
