PS3HEN [Support Thread] PS3HEN Bugs, Problems, and Other Issues

Idk, I would think any formatting would be fine, and once booted into recovery, file operations should work, but it would be worth testing.

I'm not sure right now if the ps3 will boot into its own mode for a backup and hen will be disabled anyway. Then all files should be backed up on hdd. The hard disk is always formatted before a restore. With old backups you will loose hen >3.1.1 after a restore.

Edit:
On the other hand, it was of course an advantage that all files were stored on /dev_flash in Hen versions up to 3.1.1. This made HEN completely independent of backups. If new backups now contain files that will perhaps no longer fit in the future for new HEN Versions, problems are inevitable.

Running into an issue after installing HEN on HFW 4.90.1. After installing HEN and turning the console off a few times for installations of pkgs, no longer using, etc, the "Enable Hen" option on the XMB no longer works. It will open the HEN tab like it usually shows but it doesn't notify "HEN 3.2.1 (or whatever the most recent is)" at the corner nor does it show any of the Install Package Files, WEBMAN Games folder etc. When I use the initializer from the site it redownloads the .p3t file, and HEN enables but it doesn't work every time. Im pretty certain I've followed all instructions properly And when I return to OFW and restart the process it repeats.

What packages are you installing? Because some pkgs can break hen. Also you should be installing HFW, not OFW, which I assume was a typo.

On a clean install of hfw, without installing 3rd party "stores", etc, you should have no problems.

Please report back if you want.

Maybe I did mistype, I meant to say to try and fix the problem I reset the system back to OFW then reinstalled the HFW and HEN to try and fix the problem with enabling. I've only installed WEBMan, Multiman, and PKGi. Is PKGi the problem I'm having? I looked for information on whether it was compatible with HEN and it seemed like it did but if that's what's causing the issues I suppose that makes sense. Thanks for your reply.

official pkgi is fine. it does not cause problems. unofficial versions may or may not cause problems.

If what you are saying is that just the remapped files cannot be backed up, then I still think using the dev mode toggle would be the best way forward, to allow mapped files to be copied/replaced by using that toggle.

What is even being backed up with that process? dev_hdd0 only? Or is it also backing up dev_flash2, or other flash?

I can test this out this week.

I have to test it myself first, whether the hen directory can be saved or not with the internal backup solution. But with a file manager it´s not possible.
But it is definitely only the dev_hdd0 which is backed up and can be restored with the backup program.

Today i found and tested a simple solution to reactivate hen after a restore of an old backup or formatting of hdd with the help of a rescue usb stick. (Tested on a superslim)

To build this stick:
I took the hen_enable.xml from the original Hen package and renamed it to external.xml, opened that file with an editor and changed the view id from "hen_xmb" to "external"
<View id="external">

You have to copy that file to the root of an usb stick and plug it into usb port 0. (right port)
After starting the PS3 the HEN icon is back and you have the possibility to activate HEN and to install the package "Latest_HEN_Installer_signed.pkg" with the help of the package manager.
It´s the best to copy this package to the usb stick first.

You can download this package from ps3xploit.me.
Please always pay attention to the correct firmware version.

To get the hen_enable.xml you can unpack the Latest_HEN_Installer_signed_pkg with your pc or ManaGunZ.

It sounds complicated now, but you only have to create the stick once.

@esc0rtd3w: Maybe you can remove the write protection of the mapped files because it's so easy to restore a deleted /hen directory.

The new HEN was modified so that it doesn't crash with older Webman ? That's a temporary problem , i think you should revert to the old HEN similar to 3.11 which can persist after a format or backup restore .

I also prefer the old way that all files are stored on dev_flash, but that's the way it was decided. It only has something to do with the fact that the menu item disappears after activating Hen and the package manager only appears after activation.
But for every decision there a pro and a cons.

Edit: But now I have the rescue USB Stick and I can restore Hen very easy after a hdd format without the need of the ps3xploit website.

Or maybe devs can make a page to install HEN 3.1.1 on compatible firmwares ( up to 4.89 i believe ) , for those who wish to use this version .

I recently talked to @bguerville about this, and we can just have mappath ignore mapped paths while certain modules are loaded, ie, Backup and Restore. I think we can work on this over the next week or so.

This can also be accompanied by having a toggle in HFW Tools, to disable mapping protection, if the user needs to.

EDIT: The external xml idea is also good. We could also probably just add emergency xml that could be readily copied to USB via hfw tools.

@Joonie had the best idea. Just do the backup and restore without enabling HEN

I like the toggle idea too.

:biggrin2:Yes for new backups this is the best solution.
But after restoring old backups or formating the hdd the rescue stick is very practical.

Hello, I have HFW 4.90 and was using hen 3.1.1, sometimes I would need to retry hen activation multiple times but it would ultimately work at some point, my system just got auto-updated to 3.2.1 and now HEN activation just hangs in the logo screen from the XMB icon and in the web activator it just hangs at "Installing HEN..." without any more information, if I try to exit both screens, my system will hang in the XMB background and the power off button will not work (beeps multiple times) and I have to power off the cable, how can I solve this?

EDIT: it has something to do with webman (1.47.44), just disabled it and it's working now

We did add a flag to check hen installing, that also checks for webman in 3.2.1, but that only applies when installing from HTML.

If you are doing the auto update from xmb, this flag is not set. I was thinking of adding an xmb flag to also check webman if installing from auto update, but this wasn't added yet.

Weird that it was just hanging though and not loading hen. How did you load hen to disable webman? Using HTML installer?

That version 1.47.44 is the version that fixed freezing issues on 4.90.

Hello i am in 4.90 HFW with HEN 3.2.1 and the icons dosn't charge. This not sucess before install HEN. This is a issue can you fix this guys?
