As the title describes, I am on Rebug 4.85.1 no BD and I am getting the following error when I try to do the Remarry Bluray Drive in Factory Service Mode (FSM):

sys_storage_open err: 80010006
CEX_drive_init() failed

As far as I can tell, everything is well attached to the PS3. I have tried 4 different Blu-Ray drives that I know work, with 4 different ribbon cables, and 4 different power cables but still nothing. My guess is that the Blu-Ray drive connector to the motherboard is done, but looking at it up close doesn't show any issues with it.

Why am I getting that error? Is there a way I can troubleshoot this with your help? Is there a log file I can look at?

I'm new here and into the PS3 CFW world so I don't know much yet.

Thanks.

You aren't on DEX are you? (that would cause a lot of problems)

FYI...that 80010006, refers to the fact the ps3 is having trouble accessing the file. This could mean a few things, including file corruption.

It is on CEX. :)

Here is a bit of history on the PS3. I bought this from a repair shop and apparently it was unfixable. I was able to address the power supply issue, the switchboard problem, replaced the thermal paste and voila, the system powered on just fine, on OFW System Software 3.18. There was one more issue, the Blu-ray disc drive did not read discs. I noticed that the Blu-ray drive connector to the motherboard was missing the clip to secure the ribbon cable, so I took a clip from another system and put it on the connector. Now the ribbon cable can securely stay inside and not move at all. Got a brand new ribbon cable, power cable, and tried again, still nothing. Replaced the lens with a brand new one that works, and nothing. So I figured that perhaps the person at the repair shop swapped Blu-ray drives by accident and it needed to be remarried.

I tried to update the System Software to OFW 4.86 and it would go all the way to 64%, then return error 8002F14E. The PS3 got stuck in an upgrade loop, so I had to remove the HDD, format it in Windows, and try to do a PS3 System Restore via Safe Mode, which did not work. I tried to install OFW but it just wouldn't work. The PS3 would get stuck for 30 minutes on "Checking... Please wait", then detect the OFW, another 30 minutes to start formatting, then it would crap out at 64% again with the same error code.

The only thing I could do was load CFW, and since the PS3 was on OFW 3.18, it was easy to install Rebug 4.85.1 NO BD. I figured that at least I could get the PS3 to load the OS and troubleshoot if the issue is indeed that the Blu-ray is not married to the PS3. I have read that you should be able to upgrade regardless of what Blu-ray you have plugged in, but I still wanted to rule that out. And that's how we get here...

Are there any tools that can aid in troubleshooting this? I am even considering removing the Blu-ray connector from the motherboard and replacing it with another one but I haven't been able to find a good guide online on how to do it, or the connector (I would have to plug it out of a working console, which I prefer not to). All in all, I want to really figure out what the problem is. :)

Before removing the connector make a good visual inspection inside it with a loupe, maybe it have a pin broken or bent

And btw, in which order are you inserting the ribbon cable ? (and the broken clip), you should do it this way:
step 1) insert ribbon cable
step 2) insert the broken clip

If you do it in opposite order is the same than when someone tryes to insert the ribbon cable with the clip in the "closed" position, the result is it looks the ribbon cable stays in his place... but it doesnt have the required pressure (because has not been inserted completly)

You say you have replaced the blue ray drives? but is that with different logic board? - i've seen this error before with a bad logic board, also noticed you are using NO BD firmware.

So there is the following possibilties:

Failed logic board
Bad blue ray connection on motherboard - bad pin or dirty?
Try the rebug 4.86 cfw firmware with a alternative compatible logic board in one of your blue ray drives - if you havent done this already
