PS2 [Testers Needed] OPL internal exfat 2TB+ HDD and multi-BDM devices

  • Why exFAT on a drive smaller than 2TiB?
  • 512Byte CLUSTERS formatted??? That's definitely false!
  • APA is what is natively used by the PS2 on the internal HDD and what works with every app that supports an internal HDD, contrary to exFAT on internal HDD, which is only supported by an over 1 year old OPL fork and Neutrino.

Open for testing if Grimdoomer still needs help with the project. Or anyone else who wants to expand further with the app. cheers

I'm just testing it works with the SATA adapter I purchased, using a drive I had lying around, before I go and buy a bigger drive.
What do you mean false? I've literally pulled the sector size from the drive using PowerShell. One thing I'd read to be careful of when using this fork, is some external USB to SATA adapters change the sector size to 4k, which isn't supported, hence me checking.
Yes that's all well an good, unless you need more storage, which surely is the whole reason this fork exists in the first place?

Thanks

Hi all,

I'm using GrimDoomer's latest build of OPL (1.2.0-1996), and am trying to get my hard drive/games to show up in OPL.

I'm using a Seagate Barracuda ES 500GB SATA drive, initialised as GPT with an EXFAT filesystem. I have confirmed the sector size is 512
I have two folders on the root of the volume, as CD and DVD, with most of my ISOs of games in the DVD folder.
I am using the original PS2 network/HDD adapter, but with a replacement SATA interface board rather than IDE.

When connecting to the PS2, the drive spins up, and if I go into HDDManager it knows a drive is connected but obviously can't tell it's been formatted.
If I go into OPL and set HDD and BLK devices to auto and restart, I get no errors saying a drive isn't connected, but when looking for games in the list it finds nothing.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what else to check given the drive seems to be detected by the PS2, but OPL is not seeing anything on the file system?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks
Eds

In the settings (where you set "BDM Start Mode" and "HDD Device Start Mode" to auto), next to "BDM Start Mode" there's another section "Block Devices". Go into that section and check whether "HDD" is enabled.

Hope this helps.

/s Yeah "great"!

I asked you for CLUSTERS SIZE, because that can ALSO be the root of issues.........!

If you asked me what my cluster size was, it wasn't clear. What you said was:

This to me sounded as though you thought I said I had a 512byte cluster size, and you were telling me I was wrong. At no point did I say anything about cluster size, I was only referencing my sector size.
The above is not you asking me "What is your cluster size".

If that's something you wanted to know, I'll be honest, it needed to be asked clearer than the above.

This has solved my issue, thank you.

Context is a thing and it made it quite clear, IMO.
What you said was:
No... What I WROTE is what you quoted.
This to me sounded as though you thought I said I had a 512byte cluster size, and you were telling me I was wrong.
Yeah, you got that right!
If that would have been your cluster-size (which IS important), that would have been wrong!
At no point did I say anything about cluster size, I was only referencing my sector size.
Yeah! Iiiii... was ASKING you about CLUSTER-size, because it can cause the same issues............ Do you think I ask a question for no reason??? ;)
The above is not you asking me "What is your cluster size".
It sure is... It is just not phrased like you did it. Maybe a bit too indirect though. :-/

Context is a thing though. I really thought it was obvious enough.
If that's something you wanted to know, I'll be honest, it needed to be asked clearer than the above.
Alright, my fault then. I will try to remember it and ask more directly. :)

Btw.: Are you German? Being "on point" and super direct?

This has solved my issue, thank you
I am glad that your setup is working now and I wish you a lot of fun playing.

This came out a couple of days ago.
https://github.com/pcm720/nhddl
It's a launcher for neutrino, supports Memcard Pro, Exfat and disks larger than 2TB. I think these features already make this fork of OPL obsolete. (Onimusha 2 doesn't hang on intro)
But it doesn't have GSM options
Have you test it? Is it at least that good as GrimDoomers fork? Do I need to change something on my hdd or is it compatable with already made for this OPL fork HDD with iso files? Do I need to setup modes for games like in OPL? Any video tutorial for this?:confused2: Can you switch between NHDDL and GD's OPL with no trouble in any time? Does NHDDL uses covers from OPL?

I just downloaded the zip from the thread of nhddl and changed the config yaml from usb to ata and my hdd was loaded. Same disk I use for this opl

i tested it and works great. 4tb exfat hdd. it reads the same folders as opl no worries

1. Yes.
2. Apart from the GSM, VMC, or IGR options, yes, for the simple fact of being alive.
3. No.
4. Although there are a couple of options (accurate reads and another one), I haven't needed any of them.
5. Copy neutrino into a folder, and add that ELF along with it. That's all the tutorial you need.
6. yes
7. yes.

Great to hear that. I will check it after work. I was worried that I will stuck with GD's fork for my 4tb HDD. Good to know that there is na alternative now.

Thanks, did you try ZSO image files?

Noob here. I have a question that I don't see an answer to. I've read this entire thread at least 3 times.

I have my PS2 with a Free McBoot memory card and have installed the latest version of OPL, 1.2.0.6-1996. I started putting ISO files on the hard drive and OPL does see any play them without any issues. I did find a collection of Cover Art that I downloaded and copied to the hard drive as well, but as a previous poster stated, loading the cover art is painfully slow and I figured I would try the UDMA OPL version to see if it helps.

I installed the OPNPS2LD_UDMA_PLUS.elf file and get it to open, but it does not see any files on my hard drive. Is there something else I'm supposed to do? I tried deleting the OPL seeing folder and letting the UDMA version setup it, but that didn't help. The hard drive I am using is a WD Blue drive that is UDMA 4 compatible according to the HardDriveTest program.
