PS3HEN [Tutorial] [PS3HEN] The Great Ps3 HEN All in One Guide

Hi. How's the developing of hen for 4.86 going so far? Did Sony patch something or it's just like other recent updates that didn't change much?

They basically changed nothing.
HEN 3.0.1 has been released now. So safe to update (homebrew updates still need updating) Guide will be updated today.

Hello, im kinda new into PS3 OFW (I did FreeMCboot on PS2 and that all stuff).
I have only 1 short question,
Can this Firmware in any way brick my system? Its Super Slim 4204C if not, im gonna happily do it with this guide.

Most of the links in part 7 are dead. Even the one that's hosted here.
if you are looking for the .rap file for ps2classics it is no longer needed for hen. just try to run it without the .rap file.

I was looking for the trueancester one recently on the web but couldnt find it. i think i have it already. i will look and if i have i will put it up.

i do have ps3 tools by aldostools. i will look for it too.

Do you need to install the OFW before installing HFW or does HFW substitute for OFW? Im wondering because I already have hen installed and I'm trying to update my system to 4.86 I was told to just use the HFW 4.86 but some people are saying use the OFW then use HfW then install hen again lol im just trying to figure out the right way to do it so my console doesn't brick lol please reply thank you

Sony patched the Webkit exploit but HFW brings back that functionality.
Basically, HFW (Hybrid Firmware) is OFW with those original modules replaced with the older, exploitable version.

There is a requirement with CFW flash writer to install OFW twice, or OFW then HFW. This isn't necessary with HEN though.

It was discussed to just say install it twice for both scenarios, mainly so there was no confusion resulting in mistakes, resulting in bricks.
Best to be safe then sorry when it came to the correct information.

Sorry for the long story lolol, yeh, your fine to just install HFW

well i'm really enjoy with 4.85 (it can instal all games via Multiman for Folder / ISO games and using Irishman for instal Pkg files)

but now release 4.86, should i must upgrade?
i'm afraid it can't instal new games similar like 4.85 before.

please advised...

Sony didn't change anything. HEN hasn't been changed.
The only thing you'd miss is playing online.
This guide is the same, no changes. Everything you did before will still be there when/if you update

Hi - Have a 4003 PS3 and have transferred files via USB (photos, music etc.) so really wanted to give this a try. Several hours later and no luck.

A major issue is that I only have Gioteck controllers. So booting into safe mode isn't an option. I tried it - but the PS button wasn't available (using another USB joystick didn't fix this). Hence couldn't get into the main menu.
So, I took a number of USB sticks (about 6, of different makes/types) and formatted each with FAT 32, Master Boot Record. I even tried on OSX and Windows XP.

Created a PS3 Folder, then an UPDATE folder, and copied the file (checking MD5) and renamed to PS3UPDAT.PUP each time. The USB stick would usually be in the rightmost USB port i.e. the one closer to the red/green light.

But while I could verify that the USB stick was visible in the PS3 (photos, music etc.) the update just would not pick up, and I got the usual 'No applicable update data was found' each time.

Any help in getting past this would be welcome. Just to confirm Im on 4.86 and trying to install HEN. The USB stick is visible each time, but the update just won't pick up however hard I try (is there something in 4.86 which prevents this ?)

I've got a few USB keyboards, but can't even work out what the mapping for the PS key would be. And the way things are at the moment, going out to buy a PS3 controller might take a lot longer than usual.

I've installed a 500g hard drive in my PS3 - but don't even think I can update the PS3 if I put the file there, not sure how I'd get it on there in the first place (maybe USB = USB between PS3 and mac).

But any help would be appreciated here.
thanks

It's unfortunately your controllers... You'll have to find an official one as you need to update feom recovery

Hi, I have this strange issue.
I have PS3 SS, installed ofw 4.85, then hfw from this guide .... everything went smooth, but then I installed WebMAN mod (holding L1 as said in guide) and my fan went full speed all the time. I checked temperatures - about 40-45°C. I have tried restoring the system with ofw 4.85, but it did not help.
I have cleaned my PS3 like 5 gamehours ago with a fresh paste and everything was good until that WebMAN mod was installed.
Any ideas what to do? it is really annoying. Thanks
Go to webman setup on your ps3 and adjust the fan settings I hope this helped you out

What firmware are you using to install the update and the update you trying to install would be the 4.86 HFW update am I correct? Try switching to ofw if you haven't already and then install the hfw update make sure your usb is on FAT32 And make sure you have a folder with all caps PS3 and make sure you have a folder inside the PS3 one and make a new folder called UPDATE and make sure inside that one the file you have is called UPDATEPS3.pup I believe it's called then put the usb in the far right port and update via usb and if that didn't work then you might need to downgrade your system to a lower firmware like 4.85 or no lower than 4.82 in my opinion then after downgrading try and install the update via usb again I hope this helped you out bro

the file not UPDATEPS3.pup...it is PS3UPDAT.PUP...it must be all caps.

Good day. CECH-4008C here.
Decided to update from 4.85 HFW to 4.86, don't ask me why.
So went on to install the 4.86 OFW and then HFW.
Now, when I got the hen/installer page it downloads the ps3hen.p3t, but doesn't install it after that. I remember that when I was installing the 4.85 it immediately prompted to install after downloading. Alternate method just fails everytime on 95%. I'm doing everything the same as before. Cookies and close confirmation stuff. If anyone can suggest anything, or knows what's i'm dealing with here, that would be much appreciated.

UPDATE:
I decided to take my own route and pressed Initialize Installer and then Install Hen on the hen/installer page. And it worked. Maybe I'm dumb or blind, but that option is not mentioned in the guide.
