PS2 Undefined problem with controller ports

I've used translation a bit with this post, if anything sounds off please feel free to point that.
I also couldn't find any thread relatable to my problem, but if you are sure something like that already was asked, I'm happy to read through that thread.

I recently acquired a Bluetooth adapter for my (also recently acquired) PS2 Fat 50003. Adapter plugs into the controller ports and enables wireless connections with gamepads. I tried it with the PSX and it worked seamlessly with both Xbox and PS gamepad. Unfortunately, it's unresponsive on my PS2. The adapter neither pairs nor reacts to button commands. It's powered but seems bricked. For example when I plug it in, lights power up, if I take it out and replug, it's dead. Could it be more of a power problem? I have zero knowledge of electricity and console motherboards but sometimes it feels like there is lack of voltage.

I don't have a PS2 gamepad to fully test the ports, but the PSX gamepad worked in the main menu and the FMCB interface. However, its functionality in games is questionable (wasn't reactive to commands in both Max Payne and Killzone). At first, I suspected the ribbon cable, as it showed signs of wear and damage. I've since replaced it, but the situation remains same. The rest of the PS2 operates without issue, as far as my tests went.

I'm at a loss for solutions. Do you have any suggestions? Is it worth considering a replacement for the gamepad ports? Moreover, would PS2 slim ports be compatible?

Thank you in advance. I'll need some time to test any practical advice, as I'm currently away from home. Also I can provide photos later today if needed.

(I'm polish so if you know the cause, but have problems with english please DM me, or post in polish)

Hello,

I have a similar problem. I purchased a wireless adapter: Brook Wingman PS2.
It works fine on my PS1 but when I use it on my PS2 it doesn't work and needs to be powered externally.
I believe it draws power from the controller port but the PS2 does not supply enough power from the port to fully power it.
My PS2 model is also a SPCH-5000x. I suspect these particular models output much less power to the controller ports than other models.

I am currently looking for a solution to this problem.
I may just buy another PS2 (since they are cheap). Because I know the wireless adapter works with some models.
But, I would like to find out exactly how much power the different models output through the controller ports.

Anyone have that information?

I had the same issue just now, also with a 5000x model (50001 USA model). Actually I'd been using these on a PS1 so I did not even realize that on "some" PS2's they need extra USB power to work.

Oddly, I have also a pair of Retro Fighters Defender controllers, and their wireless adapter works just fine on that same PS2, so I wonder why does the Brooks one need so much more power?

Anyway, I have a Japanese SCPH-39000 but it is taken apart right now for cleaning, new CMOS battery, recap and HDMI mod but when I put it all together next weekend I'll test it with these Brooks Wingman PS2 adapters and see if it works without the extra USB power.

An update to this:

I purchased an SCPH-50001/N and tested the Brook Wingman PS2 on that.
Fortunately, it does not need to be externally powered. :)

What is the /N?

I really wish we could find the answer as to why some of them aren't providing enough power :(

The "N" in the model number indicates that it was bundled with a network adapter.
In this case it came with the SCPH-10281 network adapter.

You own an SCPH-50001 and it's not supplying enough power to the Brook WIngman PS2?
Strange, because there's people on Reddit with that exact model and they say they don't need to externally power the Brook Wingman.

ahh ok very strange then. My 50001 can power Retro Fighters Defender wireless dongles but not the Brooks adapters. However, I also have a Japanese 39000 which powers the Brooks adapters just fine but it is taken apart right now because I'm in the middle of installing a Retro GEM and waiting for some replacement parts from overseas.

I have Blueretro ps2 adapter and all is working fine. PSX controller will not work on most ps2 games as a standard.

If it works in the menus before the game, then i think it would just be a compatibility issue with certain games maybe? Some game older games i remember that they actually required the ds2 to be pluggied it for all of the pressure sensitive buttons, a dualshock 1 refused to work on some. I think RE:Code Veronica was one of those games that required it and would not work otherwise
