PS3 Very flakey PS3 slim (CECH-2101A)

I bought the console from a seller on Facebook Marketplace. Upon booting I saw some artifacting on the XMB (white squares, either with noise or inverted colors). After about an hour of running, the XMB locked up and the console had to be hard shut down (pulling the power cord). After this, the console refused to boot at all. Once in a while I would be given a blank (signalled) screen, but nothing more. I couldn't even get into the recovery menu.

After this, I started to diagnose. I formatted the hard drive, repasted the CPU/RSX and even tried the "pressure" trick. To no avail, I was left with the blank screen. Giving up, I left it unplugged overnight. Today I plugged it back in, and left it. I came back to it at the recovery screen. I was able to install OFW 4.92. I shut the console down from the XMB menu, and it locked up again. I am now getting no signal once again. I first thought the HMDI port was bad, then maybe the RSX is cooked. Now I'm not sure.

Has anybody else had these types of experiences?

Update; after leaving it unplugged for 15 minutes I was able to boot into the XMB. The flakiest of the flakes.
