Wanting to play custom music on any game. Does this work on Rebug 4.86.1?

In webMAN MOD you can use /sysbgm.ps3 when the game is running to enable the background music that is accessed through the Music column of the in-game XMB (accessed through the PS button).

AFAIK You need to have Background Music flag enabled in attribute of the PARAM.SFO of the game.

NOTE: Once the /sysbgm.ps3 option is enabled, the system will reboot when you exit the game.

@aldostools Is there a tutorial? I am familiar with hex editors (particularly HxD).
Am I looking for a certain pattern in the SFO or just a specific offset?

I saw a page on psdev but no tutorial was associated with it.

There is no need for hex edit... just use the PARAM.SFO Editor found in my PS3 Tools Collection

Thank you. Will do.

Edit: Tried it. Not working. The PS3 tells me the game's (Skyrim) music will
play later automatically. Oddly enough it already was checked. I have tried it before on an OFW PS3 and I could never get it to play. The one thing though I did check was 1080p (not working) support and both this game and Oblivion officially only support up to 720p though this could be related to Skyrim's in-game settings.

Thoughts?

I finally figured it out by adding /sysbgm.ps3 to the custom combo R2 Square on the wMM Setup. Still getting freezes when enabling or exiting certain games.

Some games tested:

LEGO The Hobbit: Freezes on enable.
Super Mario 64 Homebrew Port: Works but freezes when exiting even when disabled.
Sonic CD: Freezes on enable.

Already did that a while back with most of my games.

@Ezzio11

Open up webMAN MOD settings and go down to the button combo area.
There will be a blank area that says custom with R2 and Square as the combo.

In the empty area put this "/sysbgm.ps3" without the quotations.
Save settings (and restart PS3?)

Then after the game boots bring up the XMB and hold R2 and Square. Shortly afterwards it should tell you that background music is enabled. It can also be disabled with this combo as well.

@aldostools says that it need to be disabled before exiting the game.

I think I "may" have found the issue.
It also works on Skyrim LE, until you try exiting

I think it may be somehow clearing some of wMM commands from RAM. I had an idea that maybe using the combo
to disable CFW Syscalls might stop the freezing if enabled after disabling the BGM enable option.

So I tried to with the button combo. And nothing happened. I have tried to exit after disabling music with the impose menu
and the "quit game" XMB option and still it freezes.

Be aware that the button combos only work when you press PS button to show the in-game XMB menu.

@LuanTeles
I know. I tried pressing the combo again to disable it but it gives me no notification and seem to disable other button combos.

@aldostools
I did. But all button combos in XMB stop working after enabling the music playback and I cannot disable it.
I have to select the option to turn off the console and then it freezes. A short while later it beeps three times then turns off.

Also button combos can work when a game uses the PS3's native OSD screen to load, save or tell you about the game autosaving among other things. Basically the messages that use the same type of menu that the impose menu does.

And about the above post I made, I never got a notification about the music being disabled. Is there any other way to set up more custom button combos or change existing ones to something different?

What I am saying is that I am not sure if pressing that button combo again is working as I said before as it seems to nullify all other button combos when used.

And that's it? Just apply this command? No editing or something?

Also, have you tried trying disabling the command via browser on phone or PC?

/sysbgm.ps3 is a wMM web command, you can refer to the dedicated wMM Web commands thread OP or wMM documentation for details about the various available web commands, their possible arguments & required syntax.
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/webman-mod-web-commands.1508/

Here are the listed options for sysbgm.ps3

/sysbgm.ps3 - toggle in-game background music playback (must be turned off before quitting game to avoid system crash)
/sysbgm.ps3?1 - enable in-game background music
/sysbgm.ps3?0 - disable in-game background music
/sysbgm.ps3?status - show in-game background music status

Like any other Web command, it can be called from a properly setup wMM custom gamepad combo, from a browser on any device with access to your LAN or more generally from any app capable to communicate via http over port 80, the result will always be the same.

Playing music requires system resources including RAM & SPU access, generally speaking it's a bit like video capture, it's not a very good idea to use this kind of features with games that are already intensively "resource hungry" as the impact on perf & gameplay experience may be more than noticeable.

I have only tried it on the PS3 itself.

And the most stable way to play music is by direct booting them (if it works on that particular game) with multiMAN.

The sad news of all of this is that MS allegedly had a patent on playing custom background music in games. It works nearly flawless on the 360. It even mutes the game music when you play background music and usually only cuts out when an fmv or cutscene is playing.

Though the bad thing about the 360 is music can only be transferred to the system via ripping it from a CD (or maybe downloaded, which I never did). Sony was much better in regard to allowind custom media to be transferred via USB or even a data disc.

On the 360 you can play music from a usb drive but it can take a while longer to access and display the music to play it. It also seems to have issues with some of my m4a's that work fine on my Android and PS3. I think it used to work better but after an update MS made playing music from usb more irritating.

@bguerville

"Playing music requires system resources including RAM & SPU access"

And I am guessing that lower bitrate and maybe sample rate music would be less stressful on the system. When Skyrim starts stuttering, the music will sometimes stop momentarily.
And I understand why: Reading and writing to the same device at the same time (in this case the hdd) can cause too much I/O load.

Interesting, what is direct booting though? Sorry I'm new to the scene so I would like to know.

Also have you tried this in-game menu? I tried installing it but no luck idk why, it supposedly plays music from HDD in game

On multiMAN (though it may require the game to be in "jb" format or on a FAT32 drive and in split iso, you can press triangle to bring up the settings and there is an option to direct boot. It basally boots game and skips the XMB.

About that plugin, yes, I tried it first. It works but it's even more buggy.

@aldostools said the enable bgm feature in webMAN MOD is based on that plugin.
