webMAN MOD

PS3 webMAN MOD - General Information Thread 1.47.48q

Yes, the format Name [BLES-12345].iso is also detected.
[...]
If you have selected the option ONLINE COVERS, the plugin will first try to use the local covers. If none is found, then it will use the online covers.

Hmm... So things are not working like it was supposed to work. I think I found a bug.

Here are some games that I have in my console hdd0:

PS1
  • 3Xtreme
  • Road Rash
PS2
  • Champions of Norrath
  • Ecco the Dolphin
PS3
  • Initial D
These are the folder structure and files:
PSXISO/3Xtreme (USA) [SCUS94231].bin
PSXISO/3Xtreme (USA) [SCUS94231].cue
PSXISO/3Xtreme (USA) [SCUS94231].png
PSXISO/Road Rash (USA) [SLUS00035].cue
PSXISO/Road Rash (USA) [SLUS00035].bin
PSXISO/Road Rash (USA) [SLUS00035].cue
PSXISO/SLUS00035.PNG
PS2ISO/Champions of Norrath (USA) [SLUS20565].iso
PS2ISO/SLUS20565.PNG
PS2ISO/Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future (USA) [SLUS20394].iso
PS2ISO/Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future (USA) [SLUS20394].png
PS3ISO/Initial D Extreme Stage - [BLJM60055].iso

As you can see:
  • 3Xtreme and Ecco the Dolphin have a cover file that are named after their disc dump names.
  • Road Rash and Champions of Norrath cover naming uses their serial code only.
  • Initial D has no cover file.
And here comes the BUG webMAN MOD when selected the option is

ONLINE COVERS
  • 3Xtreme and Ecco the Dolphin covers are loaded locally.
  • Road Rash and Champions of Norrath covers are ignored and aren't loaded.
  • Initial D cover is downloaded (somewhere) from the database and it's loaded.
MM COVERS
  • 3Xtreme and Ecco the Dolphin covers are loaded locally.
  • Road Rash and Champions of Norrath covers are loaded locally.
  • Initial D has no cover file so it's not loaded.

Conclusion: So covers that have the same name as the DISC DUMP are always loaded, covers that are named with only the SERIALNUMBER are only loaded with MM COVERS mode (offline mode). And games that have no cover files are only loaded in ONLINE mode if they are PS3 Games (because the default database is for PS3 Games only right?)

Naming convention
And now about the naming convention, I tried many combinations, and by memory I can only confirm that the one that I used here is the safest and working one:
Name of the game [SERIALNUMBER].iso and SERIALNUMBER.PNG (exactly like that, no hyphen or underline).
I will test and confirm the other combinations again because if I remember not all of them worked, but maybe I'm wrong.

@aldostools You're welcome. Take your time.

One more thing, just to add to my scenario...
If you change from MM COVERS to ONLINE and you just save the options, ps3 will restart. If you check the PS1, PS2, PS3 categories, you will see that every cover is loaded correctly.
But the bug will only take effect when you Refresh XML / XMB and Rescan webman games. After you have done it, if you check your games the only cover that will appear will be the PS3 one.

@Leons read the quote below, it explains why the cover icons doesn't have the correct aspect ratio and explains how to work around it.

A huge covers pack for webMAN MOD is available here thanks to @DeViL303:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/multiman-cover-pack-v7-30.23748/

To create your own covers I highly recommend the PScoverBOX by @0_obeWAN
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/pscoverbox-1-0-coverbox-generator-for-webman.3186/

There is another tool by Rudi Rastelli that can be useful
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/rudi-rastelli-releases-ps3-cover-tool-v1-1.3676/

What sizes w/h in pixels they must have (for both, PSX and PS2 covers)?
The images should be squares due the XML is generate with the icon_notation: WNT_XmbItemSavePS3
If the image is too big, too small, too wide or too tall, it will be resized. PScoverBOX uses 268x268

As the form factor of the covers varies depending on the game platform, I suggest to use PNG and fill the blank space with transparent pixels to create the square image. PScoverBOX already takes care of this.

SQ0heBr.png

Is there any size limitation?
Although images in big resolution look better, they also consume more VSH memory. So I suggest to make the images the smallest possible if you plan to list a large number of games. e.g. 160x160 or smaller

The width & height must be multiple of 4.

Where to place them?
webMAN MOD uses several locations. I suggest to use multiMAN's location for covers, so they can be used by multiMAN, IRISMAN, sman, webMAN, webMAN MOD

PS1 & PS2:
/dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/USRDIR/covers_retro/psx/

The file name format is SLUS_123.45.JPG or .PNG (uppercase)

PS3
/dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/USRDIR/covers

Other locations can be:

/dev_hdd0//game/BLES80608/USRDIR/covers
/dev_hdd0/tmp/game_repo/main/covers
/dev_hdd0//game/NPEA00374/USRDIR/covers
/dev_hdd0//game/MANAGUNZ0/USRDIR/covers
/dev_hdd0/GAMES/covers
/dev_hdd0/GAMEZ/covers

(The double // in the paths is used intentionally to search in hdd0 when the external gameDATA is enabled)

For custom locations the user can define it in COVERS_PATH of the language file.

The file name format is BLES12345.JPG or BLES12345.PNG (uppercase)

For ISOs (PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, DVD, BD, ROMS, NTFS)
<path>/<filename of ISO>.png
<path>/<filename of ISO>.jpg
<path>/<titleid of ISO>.JPG or PNG

examples:
/net0/PSXISO/MyGame.iso.png (can be without .iso too)
/ntfs1/PSXISO/MyGame.png
/dev_usb000/PSXISO/MyGame.jpg
/dev_usb000/PS3ISO/BLES12345.PNG

The covers of exFAT / NTFS games are cached automatically in:
/dev_hdd0/tmp/wmtmp

For PS2 Classics (.BIN.ENC):
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/<filename>.BIN.ENC
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/<filename>.BIN.ENC.PNG <= Used as ICON0.PNG when the game is mounted
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/<filename>.BIN.ENC.PIC0.PNG <= optional
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/<filename>.BIN.ENC.PIC1.PNG <= optional
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/<filename>.BIN.ENC.PIC2.PNG <= optional

Alternative file names for icons and background
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/<filename>.PNG <= Used as ICON0.PNG when the game is mounted
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/<filename>.PIC0.PNG <= optional
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/<filename>.PIC1.PNG <= optional
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/<filename>.PIC2.PNG <= optional

webMAN MOD also can list the covers from an online server hosted FREE of cost to the community by @DeViL303

How they are recognized? If by filename, then how? By GameID (i.e "SLUS12345.png")?
Both methods are supported.

If the TITLE ID is included in the file name of the ISO, the cover is searched in the same folder or in the centralized repositories.
If the title id is not found, the cover is searched in the same path of the ISO as file name + .JPG or PNG (.iso extension is optional)

They are in anyway overlay like i.e in OPL overlayed by 3D disc case?
I don't know any 3D disc case overlay. ManaGunZ can display the cases in real 3D.

PScoverBOX includes various nice 2D overlays.

@aldostools there is a problem that bothers me for some time, is there any difference between HEN and CFW webman versions? I always have problems going to HFW from CFW, after enabling HEN the web browser it doesn't exit and after 1 or 2 minutes the XMB crashes, the power led is yellow, so seems that webman crashes while trying to scan the content.

So every time I use an empty boot_plugins.txt in my usb device, then I delete the webman and reinstall it

Go to /setup.ps3 and disable the content scanning at start up.

Also Installing the lite version is not working here, i just press X and the full version is being installed, i tried several times and always the same.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm not sure about this last issue.
The issue with the covers reported earlier (and a few others) should be fixed in the latest build. Please use the online updater or re-download the installer from the release page on github.

I tested with the latest build and I couldn't reproduce the issue.
Maybe your X button was not pressed (controller issue??).

I have added a message during installation that shows if the lite/full version is being installed.

BTW The online installer always installs the full version.

What is the difference between PSP Minis Launcher and PSP Remasters Launcher ?
Should I need to install both of them? I already have both installed.

Some tittles only runs in one and other in the another.

For the compatibility list see here

PSP remasters are just isos that can run from the xmb. PSP minis get installed to the hard drive as if you got them from the PSN store.

@aldostools is there a limit of subfolders+filename characters in internal PS3 HDD?
I'm trying to extract my categorized Mega Drive romset in ROMS folder and it can't extract.
When I 7zip the same files in normal compression, if I try to extract it only creates the subfolders.
If I 7zip the same files in store compression (no compression), the black screen with extraction message appears and freezes, nothing is created, not even the subfolders.

Example of how deep it goes:
"dev_hdd0\ROMS\MEGADRIVE\#originals\No-Intro\World-USA-JAP-Misc\Arcade Legends Sega Mega Drive ~ Arcade Legends Sega Genesis ~ Mega Drive Play TV (World).md"

EDIT:
I tried different compressions, dictionary sizes and finally compression method.
At first it was LZMA2 and then I tried Fast compression with LZMA1 it created my subfolders and started to extract my roms and it worked!

7zip archive info:
1765 files / 10 folders
Decompressed = 2.30 GB
Compressed = 1.35 GB
Compression level = Fast
Compression method = LZMA
Dictionary size = 1 MB
Word size = 32
Solid Block size = 128 MB
Memory usage for Compressing = 19 MB
Memory usage for Decompressing = 3 MB

Only one level of sub-folder is supported by webMAN MOD.
Also avoid file names too large to prevent potential issues. Also for better reading on XMB.
e.g. /dev_hdd0/ROMS/MEGADRIVE/Arcade Legends Sega Mega Drive (World).md

I don't know if RetroArch supports 7zip. The 7zip support in webMAN MOD is experimental and I don't know the exact limitations.
Try using zip instead of 7z format.

I'm still having issues with filezilla not being able to read my NTFS drive from the PS3.
I just get "failed to retrieve directory listing"

Oh I see what you mean. I'm not using my roms as shortcuts with PKGLAUNCHER as I will load them on Retroarch.
And I'm not playing compressed 7z games. I just moved my mega drive big rom selection to my hdd. Because I know it's faster to move 1 big 7z file instead of a bunch of individual files, I compressed all my roms and it's categories.
Anyway, It worked as I wanted.
