PS3 worth the effort to repair BC unit if I have a fat ps2 as well?

So we have a pile of ps consoles in various degrees of functioning:. My BC CECHA01 went YLOD on me two months ago, and a capacitor replace didn't seem to fix it, and I am probably destroying it in miniscule ways every time I try something new to fix that. I have a second CECHA01 that boots to the main menu but won't read BD, though it will accept and eject disks, they won't spin up. I believe this is probably because the drive is a swapped one and the original daughterboard is damaged.

I was wondering if it is possible to fool the mainboard into thinking it is the original daughterboard if I could switch out an IC containing the information from original and solder it in place on a replacement daughterboard that is functional but unmarried? I almost have more faith in my soldering skills to do that rather than the process of jailbreaking it from OFW 3.50 to marry it, and somehow would be less frustrated by the idea of it failing to work afterwards if something went wrong in either process..

But failing that possible option of repair to either, we also have a non BC CECHK01 which was a thrift store find that is basically full of movies on the HDD which I wouldn't care about losing, and supposedly will read disks.

With my fat ps2 available with it's HDD and swap magic setup available for all my old ps2 and psx needs, Is there any other really compelling reason to keep futzing with the 60gb BC ps3's besides the fact that they have an additional couple of USB ports that make it easier to play guitar hero with a full band complement?

If so, can someone point to the best walkthrough for getting it to accept a new BD drive unit so it can read the ps3 games we have on disk? .

Cheers!
