    Savegames conversion tutorial

WARNING: This option will overwrite your current savedata in dev_usbXXX, use it with caution

    • Download someone else's savegame for your game of your choice
    • Put the savedata in your pendrive in "X:\PS3\SAVEDATA" (pendrive must be in FAT32)
    • Put in the pendrive in the PS3
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Convert Savedata
    • Wait until the conversion finishes
    • Once finished, copy your converted savedata throught XMB "Saved Data Utility (PS3)"
    • Launch your game and load your new savedata

    Creation of act.dat tutorial

WARNING: The accountID is linked to savedata and trophies, so, if your current user already have a valid accountID and you overwrite it, you will be unable to use your trophies and savedata on that account until you restore the original accountID in xRegistry.sys.

I recommend to use an empty account without trophies and savedata or an account without accountID.

To create a fake act.dat, Cobra 8.3 must be enabled, and your PS3 must have at least one account with a valid accountID and launch a game that requires a RIF/RAP license file.

Cobra will search a valid accountID in all existing accounts and create act.dat while the game is launched through the XMB. If no accountID is found, act.dat will not be created.

You can create a fake accountID (like reactPSN), to do this go to Network > ★ Custom Firmware Tools > PSN Tools and choose between "Create accountID" or "Overwrite accountID" (Be careful about the last option because if you already have a fake/real accountID it will be overwritten). It is recommended to use these options in an account that does not have an ID. The PS3 will restart if everything went well.

The tutorial would be the following:
    • Download your purchased PSN game from PS Store
    • Put game RAP file in "X:\exdata" or "/dev_hdd0/exdata"
    • Launch your purchased PSN game
    • Cobra will check if any of your PS3 accounts have accountID
    • Faked act.dat will be created while the game is launching

If none of your accounts have a valid accountID you will need to create it. To do this log into the local PS3 account where you want to create the accountID. You can see if your current local account has an accountID choosing Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Show accountID.

To create a faked act.dat do the following:
    • Make sure Cobra 8.3 is enabled
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Create accountID
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Activate account
    • Launch your purchased PSN game
    • Faked act.dat will be created while the game is launching

Now you have a faked act.dat and your local account is activated. The act.dat file works for every local account, you only need one file for all accounts.

    Block PSN log in

This method is developed by @DeViL303, it will only work with Cobra enabled, Cobra will block log in on PSN/SEN while the CFW syscalls are enabled, to enable it again you need to disable CFW syscalls completely (you can do it with webMAN MOD, psnpatch, SEN Enabler, etc…).

If you want to disable this feature, simply delete /dev_flash/vsh/resource/npsignin_plugin.lck

If you are going to remap the np_plugin.rco the best way is to place it to /vsh/resource/AAA/

i don't know why remaps in the same folder does not works, but the AAA is the best alternative that we have.

I set about 8 remaps ( cfw sprxs) to load with HEN and they only work fine from there.

The file can be in the same folder, but it will fail if you added a sufix. This "bug" is because map_path() in Cobra compares only part of the full path. Try using a different file name.

Thanks for letting me know

How about xmls? i never made remaps working in the same partition,

e;g

/dev_flash/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/category_game.xml

to

/dev_flash/any_folder/any_name.xml

AFAIK @DeViL303 and @esc0rtd3w also had this problem

it works pointing to /dev_hdd0/

The XML is a different scenario. If you load Cobra in debug mode, you will notice that none of the XML files in /dev_flash/vsh/resource/explore/xmb appear in the socat output.

That means that the path never is processed by the function open_path_hook in Cobra payload and therefore it cannot be mapped.

It's only a vague memory now but I think I looked at this months ago & if I am not mistaken, a new hook may be needed in order to remap system xml files because those files don't get loaded through the open_path kernel function hooked by Cobra's sys_map_path. Something like that.
To be confirmed though.

Sit down together and work out a standard.

Only in this way can everyone benefit from it, and nobody has to try to outdo the other with their arts.
standards are good, but we can discover which way is best when we try several things.

aldostools can write actual code but DeViL303 and LuanTeles can not. They have learned XMBML and may discover things that aldo never needed to look at. consider also that webman can do most things, but some people do not use it so they need other options.

some things need two solutions. for example, HEN may not be able to use some things that CFW does.

I would agree with the idea that the community of PlayStation users & modders as a whole should organise in order to face future challenges, I even think its very survival may very well depend on whether or not it can get organised, but when it comes down to devs collaborating, I think that to a certain extent, devs have already been coordinating their efforts, sometimes directly as suggested (you can find examples of that in this forum & even in this thread, it is only the tip of the iceberg though because development convos don't usually take place in a forum), but most of the time indirectly as, overall, when someone develops something new and it is deemed useful & worthy of inclusion, it's usually adopted quickly & improved upon by everyone else in following releases with unavoidable discussions back & forth in the background.
The biggest problem for the ps3 community specifically in terms of homebrew (and related) production is not the lack of collaboration among devs and/or users but rather the scarcity of active developers imho. With only about half a dozen active (or semi active) devs still standing after years of ps3 development of their own, very little new blood, the production output is guaranteed to be low, add to this the fact that there is no more new games & therefore less public interest in the ps3 than in the past as well as a complete lack of incentives from the community to help fund ambitious research & development projects...

There is nothing to fix.
You are a new user with a very low post count, that's why your new posts need to be approved by the moderation team before they appear in a thread & that's also why you don't have private messaging permissions.
After a while, you will automatically get the pm permissions & you will no longer need your posts to be approved.

Btw, just in case you don't already know, when you mention someone in a post & you wish that person to be notified of your mention (I assume that's what you wanted when you mentioned Evilnat), you should use the "@" character, like so @Evilnat.
Notifications are only sent if the mention is added in a new post, however if you edit (once you get post editing permissions) the post & add the mention then, no notification will be sent.

Whilst I realise there are limitations to my account as a new user, however Evilnat initiated a direct PM conversation with me two days ago (which I am greatful for as I haven't had any other acknowlegement of my first enquiry post from other users in this thread) to help me with an XMB menu lag issue (see previous page) and I have already successfully sent a first response.

Evilnat today sent me a second message and I just finished writing my second response to update Evilnat of what I have recently tried to find a solution, but the website won't let me send my second response.

Surely if I was not allowed to directly communicate with other forum members through PM as a new user, I wouldn't have been able to send Evilnat my previous first PM reply?

I don't recall the exact limitations on private messaging features tbph.
You might be able to pm text but not to send attachments. Something like that.

I'm not trying to attach any files to my reply, I have just typed a second PM text response to Evilnat and send it the same way as I did the first, but it won't allow it.

The error message seems to imply a different cause rather than new user account limitations - unless of course its a poorly worded error message that is not correctly conveying that actual problem? - As a Moderator user, are you one of the "Administrators" that the error is asking me to contact?

@STLcardsWS is the administrator.
He will be notified with this post, see what he says whenever he answers (he hasn't been around much lately so please be patient).
At my end I doubt there is a problem to fix, I don't recall anyone having issues with messaging for a very long time, it's more likely that either there is something in your pm that is detected as a spam risk or you don't have the necessary permissions to send what you are trying to send.
At least that is the first conclusion I would draw at this stage, especially given your new user status, but then again there is always a small chance of a bug that has never been reported until now..

@Coldheart2236 @Coro @sandungas @kozarovv
What do you guys think?

In the meanwhile until this error is resolved, how do I correctly add-in Evilnat to a new message I post on this thread so they are notified of it? (as in when I create a new post, rather than quoting a previous one). Do I just put the '@' symbol before their username?

Yes exactly like that.
As you can see in my post, I mentioned the administrator as well as a few moderators & old timers, they will all be notified automatically.
One of them will most likely know the exact messaging restrictions that may be in place in your case, if ever the administrator takes time to reply.
Of course when you quote another post, a notification is also automatically sent to the poster.

Well, I tried to run PSN Patch to unlock demos and install licenses. Is there an alternative to do just that? Or is there a place where I can download an updated version?
There has been no PSNPatch update for some time because there has been no need for any update.
Psnpatch is firmware independent & it already does everything it can do to achieve its aims.
Installing licenses was just an extra feature really, it was not the brew's main reason for being but it does the job well & you don't really need another tool for that.

But if you are interested in license related things, you might want to check Apollo Save Tool by bucanero out.
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/update-apollo-save-tool-v1-6-0-released.28124/

You should also note that there are new features in Cobra 8.3 (detailed in OP) which changed the licensing status quo with act.dat generation & automatic rif handling.

Hi Evilnat,

I'm having to send this second response as a thread post since I'm getting an error when trying to reply to you through PM directly.
no idea. i was PMing someone earlier today with low post count serveral messages both ways, no errors.

Well I reported the potential issue in the Moderation forum so if there is indeed a problem, it will be dealt with..

@bguerville
you can delete this above self-quoted post, I have tried sending my PM to Evilnat again and its unexpectedly gone through this time - not sure if its properly resolved or will happen again when I next try to reply, but will have to wait and see what happens.

I didnt have to approve your last post so unless Coro or someone else did, you might have been awarded full permissions & that might have impacted whatever was blocking you from sending your pm..
Anyway the admin will look into it & clarify the situation for us all.
