    Savegames conversion tutorial

WARNING: This option will overwrite your current savedata in dev_usbXXX, use it with caution

    • Download someone else's savegame for your game of your choice
    • Put the savedata in your pendrive in "X:\PS3\SAVEDATA" (pendrive must be in FAT32)
    • Put in the pendrive in the PS3
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Convert Savedata
    • Wait until the conversion finishes
    • Once finished, copy your converted savedata throught XMB "Saved Data Utility (PS3)"
    • Launch your game and load your new savedata

    Creation of act.dat tutorial

WARNING: The accountID is linked to savedata and trophies, so, if your current user already have a valid accountID and you overwrite it, you will be unable to use your trophies and savedata on that account until you restore the original accountID in xRegistry.sys.

I recommend to use an empty account without trophies and savedata or an account without accountID.

To create a fake act.dat, Cobra 8.3 must be enabled, and your PS3 must have at least one account with a valid accountID and launch a game that requires a RIF/RAP license file.

Cobra will search a valid accountID in all existing accounts and create act.dat while the game is launched through the XMB. If no accountID is found, act.dat will not be created.

You can create a fake accountID (like reactPSN), to do this go to Network > ★ Custom Firmware Tools > PSN Tools and choose between "Create accountID" or "Overwrite accountID" (Be careful about the last option because if you already have a fake/real accountID it will be overwritten). It is recommended to use these options in an account that does not have an ID. The PS3 will restart if everything went well.

The tutorial would be the following:
    • Download your purchased PSN game from PS Store
    • Put game RAP file in "X:\exdata" or "/dev_hdd0/exdata"
    • Launch your purchased PSN game
    • Cobra will check if any of your PS3 accounts have accountID
    • Faked act.dat will be created while the game is launching

If none of your accounts have a valid accountID you will need to create it. To do this log into the local PS3 account where you want to create the accountID. You can see if your current local account has an accountID choosing Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Show accountID.

To create a faked act.dat do the following:
    • Make sure Cobra 8.3 is enabled
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Create accountID
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Activate account
    • Launch your purchased PSN game
    • Faked act.dat will be created while the game is launching

Now you have a faked act.dat and your local account is activated. The act.dat file works for every local account, you only need one file for all accounts.

    Block PSN log in

This method is developed by @DeViL303, it will only work with Cobra enabled, Cobra will block log in on PSN/SEN while the CFW syscalls are enabled, to enable it again you need to disable CFW syscalls completely (you can do it with webMAN MOD, psnpatch, SEN Enabler, etc…).

If you want to disable this feature, simply delete /dev_flash/vsh/resource/npsignin_plugin.lck

Well i am pretty new to Modding my PS3 it is running CFW atm because of the last time and a tutorial i followed but i don't know if its capable with ver 4.88 on my model
To test to see if your PS3 is already running CFW, you could grab the 4.88 Evilnat CFW (as an example) and try installing it over whichever version you're on now. If it fails then you're probably still on OFW and need to jailbreak.

quick question for devs,
is it possible to put a menu option to disable BT/BD??
that would remove the need for 4 seperate downloads.
other than that, this firmware is probably perfect - i cant think of anything missing.

how to enable syscall back ?

Reboot and your CFW syscalls will be restored.

If you use webMAN MOD and have PS3MAPI option enabled in /setup.ps3 you will be able to restore the CFW syscalls without reboot going to System Update option or CFW Tools. It requires to have enabled the flag that allows to restore CFW syscalls. If you do it, you should logoff from PSN prior enable the syscalls for safety of your PSN account.

Those other downloads are for broken BT/BD, not for disabling them >.>

yes, thats not my point - i mean if the differences between firmware can be toggled then those of us with a lot of ps3's or fixing them for friends dont need multiple downloads.

No will not work as the system checks the hardware prior to boot. If the broken hardware isn't patched before the OS boots it will fail to start. The setup you are asking about would need the OS to boot completely. If something like that could have been done it would have been done over the 8+ years of the PS3 scene. This is a fault of the OS and Sony that will not be overcome unless someone writes a new group up OS. A group have been trying to do this on the PSP for over a decade and gotten litterly nowhere. It is very well established and documented hardware even more so then the PS3 so do not count on it for a very very long time.

Hi all. fast question

does Evilnat includes a way on the activation of licence with other than USB devices, such as psnpatch which has option to do it from the internal HDD0:\exdata folder ?

regards.

@Evilnat I found some minor issues in cfw_settings.cpp of xai_plugin.

They are mainly:
-If Cobra is disabled, Cobra Info was reporting like CFW syscalls were disabled.
-A few cellFsClose() were omitted in some routines
-Last USB port found was used for certain operations, instead of first port.
-Added hdd0/exdata support for create_rifs
-usb_firm_loader() was searching for 127 ports, but only checked first 7.
-Moved malloc()/free(data) outside inner loop in getAccountID()
-Added cobra check version in checkSyscall()

i just updated my PS3 firmware with this CFW .. and it is running very unstable on my PS3 SLIM model...
no idea why.. but XMB is jerky and slow, and it feels like something is eating up the processor power totally..
going back to rebug,it always worked fine.

I too was having major issues with my slim 2501a models. I use a lot of memory intensive homebrew as well like ultimate toolbox, webman mod, and retroarch so I was having a difficult time narrowing down what exactly was causing my freezing issues. Could of been a conflict between one of the apps or something in 4.88 Evilnat CFW itself. I'm honestly not sure. The headache was that it usually wouldn't start freezing until I had all my games put back on, updates installed etc., then it would just start freezing (usually in webman, sometimes when doing the refresh xmb option). Once it did this once or twice, it basically became unusable until formatting and starting over. I tried deleting various homebrew apps as well once this would start.

I did end up downgrading to 4.84.2 Rebug Dex and it's running like butter again with all my favorite homebrew apps installed again, so for now this is where i'll be hanging out. I still really like all the options and extra goodies put into this custom firmware and I think it has a lot of potential, but for now I need to stick with stability, as I spent way too much time over the last month and a half trying to work out what was causing my issue and still am not 100% sure what it was, but it's working good now. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for this CFW though. I'll keep an eye on it for future updates.

This CFW is packed with new features, Cobra additions & a major xai_plugin update so it would not be so surprising if there were some unexpected issues to iron out.

But in order to help Evilnat fix any problem, reports would need to be more precise, if possible it should contain steps to reproduce issues & system configuration details, Cobra crash outputs via socat etc.. in other words as much data as possible.

Yea I wish I had more info to supply on the issue to help with troubleshooting. I can say that when this was occurring, there definitely seemed to be some major hiccups occuring with Webman mod particularly when re scanning for games and refreshing the XMB. Weird part was it usually would work fine until I got the console fairly loaded up with games, updates, etc. Once the freezing issues would start though it quickly became seemingly impossible to fix without a format as it would just freeze withing 20-30 seconds of entering the XMB after that (even just letting it sit in the xmb).

I'll definitely be chilling where i'm at for now to avoid any further headaches, but for future reference is there a resource or page I can learn more about providing crash outputs?

With this wMM example, you are illustrating the complexity of CFW testing.
With a similar setup on another console, can the same issues be reproduced at will?
If so, can they be reproduced on other console models?
Are all the issues wMM based?
If so, are the wMM issues caused by the CFW itself & requiring fixes in CFW files?
Or are the wMM issues caused by the CFW environment but requiring wMM code fixes only?
etc...

It is not always easy for devs to act upon user reports, for instance, in my own PS3 Toolset web project, there has been few but regular reports over the past 18 months from users experiencing a freeze issue on page load.
I could never reproduce this freeze, no matter what I tried, I asked esc0rtd3w to perform numerous tests on several console models, he could not reproduce the issue either.
The few users who reported the freeze over time could not provide additional details to help us investigate.
As a result, over 18 months after the very first freeze report, the freeze issue is still an annoying "unsolved mystery".

Anyway to answer your question about getting crash outputs, in DEX mode you would only need to use Target Manager (official sdk pc tool) to get crash logs though the dedicated console output section but in CEX mode, the easiest way to get crash details along with other debug output is to replace the release version of Cobra stage2.bin by a debug version in /dev_flash.
In Evilnat's CFW, you should have a XMB menu item in the CFW Tools section to do the file swap for you, it should be called "Toggle Cobra Version".

After toggling & rebooting, Cobra will be constantly broadcasting debug output over UDP port 18194 on your LAN.
To receive the broadcast you need to run a command line app called socat, socat should be available in Linux or cygwin/mingw but if you prefer there is also a socat for windows project to avoid dependencies. You can get the executable at https://github.com/StudioEtrange/socat-windows

The socat command to display the output in the command prompt is:
Code:
socat udp-recv:18194 stdout
You could tweak that command to save the broadcasted data to file rather than display it on screen...

When you are done using the debug output, you should toggle Cobra version to go back to using the release version, there is no point keeping the debug version, it's slower & the memory footprint is bigger.
