I got a ps3 phat that got a ylod after not being use dor about 5 years. I remember that it worked last time i used it, i think i put discs there by accident but i dont feel any thing in the drive.
I tried cleaning it, booting it without disc drive and/or hard drive
It has the green light and fans turn on for about half a second then turns to yellow 3 beeps and then red.
I dont want to use a syscon reader cause im not comfortable with soldering

If you do not read out the Syscon, nobody can tell you what is broken. Of course, there are a few things that are more likely to break, such as the 90nm RSX (which is not present in a CECHJ04) and the NEC tokens. But there is no way to say replace this component and the Ps3 will work again without knowing the error codes. And even if you decide to replace the NEC tokens, it is more time-consuming than soldering a few cables. Don't take offense, but if you don't even have the confidence to solder a few cables, it's probably better to find a repair store that you trust and that knows how to read Ps3 Syscon and have them repair the console. Or you can sell the console as defective on ebay and buy a new used one. Just please don't throw the console away. You can also leave your hard disk in it, just change your PSN password on your cell phone and no one who repairs the Ps3 can log in with your PSN. You can remove the disk by plugging in a power cable, then turn off the power switch on the power cable and then press the eject button and while holding down the eject button, set the switch on the back to on. The Ps3 should then go into cleaning mode and you can remove the disk by pressing Eject despite YLOD.
