Since it's a similar topic to the question... while i was uninstalling multiman i turned off the console because it was taking too long and i thought it had crashed. Now the icon of the damaged file appears in the multiman icon and if i try to delete it takes a long time, it is practically blocked. If i try to install multiman again it gives me an error. The hhd is full, there is about 2gb free, is there a ps3 function to fix damaged files? You cannot defragmenting HDD because it is device... So You cannot do that on any kind of platform. You can defragment filesystem, which means moving clusters which files occupy as near to each other as possible. In case of PS3, You can do that on PC with "dev_flash/", "dev_flash2/", "dev_flash3/" and "dev_hdd1/" because they using FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32 filesystems. You cannot do that with "dev_hdd0/" because it using UFS2 and there is no tools in Linux for that, and no tools in FreeBSD for changing byte order, mapping and decrypting tools. On PS3 there is no tools at all for doing that.
And besides that, it doesn't have much sense anyway, because dev_flashes aren't much in use, and in case of dev_hdd1 it is always clearing after booting console. *nix filesystems family however are designed and supports of them designed to fragmenting minimally as much as possible.
hi guys i have a question regarding dev_hdd1 you mentioned that it clears everytime that the console turns off, my question is, do you know if i have an ssd installed on my ps3 do i need this partition, and also what does this partition exactly on the ps3 i think that is a cache partition that multiman creates but i dont know exactly what it does or how benefits the ps3, so it will be good to know about that one, thanks a lot and have a nice day
