PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

That's also a potential solution - this noBD FW hasn't been created for no reason. Because if you unplug the BD drive and try to mount a specific game, it will not be possible (no disc will pop up in Games section), because for mounting games the BD electronics is responsible for, so this noBD FW somehow circumvents it. In your case it also might be the reason that the faulty electronic board might cause the YLOD. At least you don't risk anything by installing the noBD FW version, so I think give it a try!

Unfortunately , again no luck for me - I've disconnected BD-drive from mobo (DIA-002) both - power and ribbon cables and re-format HDD(SSD) re-installing again CFW Evilant 4.90 [NoBD firmware] but anyway after about 20minutes console disconnects with 3 beeps again :( syscon logs showing me the same errors 1701 1601 and 14FF and temperatures remaining constants in XMB 58-60C .
. . . may be I should de-soldering those 2 transistors ?

Ahem, hello again!

Quite a time passed and since we went a bit further I'd love to ask you a question (still).
My console works fine without BD drive connected to MB, but when I connect it to the mb again, I get YLOD. 1701/1001 errors.
I managed to kill PSU, so now I'm waiting for the spare one. Anyone knows what MIGHT gonna be deffective?

P.s I already changed BD daughterboard, and this doesn't seem to be a problem. Discs are not ejected properly, btw.

following the advice here in this thread to fix the errors from my ps3 by replacing the nec tokins with tantalum capacitors, i've asked my repairman friend to take a look at it and do it, and he did in fact replace them, however the console does not turn on any more, even after a couple of tries

Really bad soldering and missing bridge wires. Don't you expect it to turn on like this.

There's no bridge. You need to solder small wires
upload_2023-4-12_19-46-50.png

Are you sure that it was NEC fault?

hi, new to syscon and psx-place. Really struggling to find a guide on which solder points to use for syscon. Can someone help please? thx

It was, console is working properly now, my friend did what you showed in that photo and now the console turns on immediately.
Thanks

Well, I hope that was your fault. In any case, I would advice you to check error codes with UART to see if there's any other problem, because I'm really HIGHLY toubting that NEC/TOKINs were faulty.
Is it backwards compatible tho CECHA/B/C/E ?
And yeah, I hope he soldered a thick wires, thiner ones will burn quickly.

If the console is now working and CFWed, I would advise him to grab the error codes using the homebrew app, which can do that (it's in one of the RIP Felix posts)

Doesn't that work ONLY with CFW? Which means, you can't use it on slim/superslim.
That's not entirely true. He didn't mention the model of this PS3, but he put the photo of motherboard, which says it's DYN-001 model. This model of the motherboard was assembled in PS3 Slim CECH-20XX versions, which are fully CFW compatible. So I suspect that he has got PS3 slim with custom firmware (but I might be wrong ofc). If he doesn't have and after that caps replacement his console is stable enough, I would advise him to install CFW and then grab the SYSCON error codes via PS3 Advanced tools Releases · bucanero/ps3-advanced-toolset (github.com) rather than soldering cables to mother board and risking screwing something up.

DVE might be going out, or an SMD it needs to have a stable signal is failing. Hard to know.

Ok Interesting, Also just wanted to add more 2022 error data, maybe you guys can make sense of it. Further testing / dumping Syscon Errors after playing PSX, PS2, and PS3 games on my CechL01 with CFW 4.90, I only got 2022 errors logged after PS2 Emulation. PSX & PS3 games had no Errors logged after playing them.

we need more information than that. What model PS3? What have you tried? How does it act? Are you getting tripple beep? Yellow LED before flashing red?

It turns off and no errors doesn't give us enough to go off of.

there is a triple signal. and after that the red light flashes
The motherboard DIA-001 turns off after starting for 20 seconds and flashes red, there are no errors. Help me understand.
I took the e3 firmware dump with a flasher, checked it, it's good.

PS3 Dump Checker patched the native dump, but nothing has changed

Was it DYN-001 tho? Hmpf, sounds like it COULD be potentially NEC/TOKINs after all.

One more remarkably interesting (for me) question: Can I (potentially) move my HDD with CFW to non CFW console? ofc, which is compatible

Yes you can, but you would have to format it first - each ps3 encrypts disk with its unique encryption key. If you think about just moving a disk from one ps3 to another keeping all data - forget about it.
