PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

First time posting and thank you for your effort and perseverance in investigating the issues of the beloved PlayStation 3.

I have two 60GB launch consoles, PAL CECHC04, both death for YLOD.
For now I opened one and extracted the logs from the SYSCON.
They are as follows:

Those 3034 errors are clearly pointing in the faulty RSX way, don't you think?
That's why, yesterday I purchased a slim CECH-3004A, in order to get a 40 NM SRX.
I don't have the skills or tools for the frankenstein mod, though, but luckily I have found a local technician that is specialized in reballing that offers that service at a reasonable price.

So, my question is: should I ask him to also change the NEC Tokins as well?
I'd prefer to do every step that would fix the console and hopefully guarantee a long life in a single operation. I'm not sure about the Tokins and you have way more experience than me so I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks again.

TOKINs are rated at 1000 hours @ 80C IIRC but they last longer. One of the last consoles I fixed was like 770 Days played and the TOKINs were working fine. Ive also had consoles that had less than 20 days and some of them were bad. If you do you need to make sure they use good low ESR tantalum caps.

Hello, all.

I've got a (probably) dying PS3 on my hands. Launch-day slim (2001A). Recently got it hooked back up after it spent a few years in a storage locker, and as of a couple weeks ago (after the first time I used it for a long gaming session, not just as a cd/dvd/bd player) nearly every boot attempt gives the triple-beep and flashing red light of death. However, it has almost always booted and run stably after a second power toggle. Which started me down the rabbit hole of diagnosis, which ended here.

Since it does run fine once started (so far), I was able to check ps3toolset via the console browser (and hot damn is that ever an impressive tool!). Each and every failure was listed 0xA0093004. As best I can tell that's an error in the RSX chip or its power supply/regulation, probably in the RSX's associated capacitors? It's not a total failure (yet) since it still boots with some persistence and runs stably while on (for now).

Unfortunately I don't have the tools or experience to do very much about it myself, depending on what's wrong with it. So I guess I'm mostly just asking to see if I understand my situation correctly?

Well, that and to ask: what I should do if I still want a working PS3 in the year 2024?

I've re-entered some of my ps3toolset.com output below:
Code:
Firmware Version: 4.91 build 50754
Platform ID: CokG11
Board ID: DYN-001
Product Code: 84
Product SubCode: 0009

... etc (1-31, same code)

CECHC console late YLOD. Syscon shows full list of 1701 error codes. However, SB uart shows lv2(2) rsx driver assert failed: device/fb.cc : 41.

Is this faulty RSX or could this be broken bga bumps under CELL as well?
Fixed by swapping 40nm RSX.

Hi guys, I have a CECH Q00 (DIA-001, they are NOT VER-001 like some say, so 90nm RSX) YLOD. Sometimes 3 seconds, sometimes longer. It seems to be going into recovery mode by itself on the longer ones. No obvious signs of damage. Warranty seal was void however, original Sony thermal paste was present. Seems like the system was last used in 2010, which is crazy being a 2009 system with 314 days LOL

I've been having an issue where my PS3 Slim (CECH-2003A) will (most of the time) YLOD upon power-on. I have to spend about 20 minutes powering the thing on just to get to the safe mode menu. After waiting some time I can then reboot into the XMB. The PS3 stays stable on the XMB but will eventually YLOD when playing a game. The time it takes to YLOD in a game usually depends on how intensive the game is to run.

Because my PS3 does power on, I can dump the SYSCON log straight from the console.

What I find weird is that all of these logs seem to be from 2019, which is before I even owned this console. I've made sure that the date and time on my console are correct but no logs from 2024 show up.

SYSCON error log dump is from today. PS3 is running Evilnat's 4.91 beta 8 firmware but this issue still occurs on other firmwares so I don't think its a firmware issue.

Help please!

I have a CECH2001A that turns on and beep 3 times then turns off and blinking red light. This unit has been in a repair shop that my friend brought for a repair and ended up nothing has been fix. It was almost a year to that shop hehehe and this is what i got after diagnosing.. A capacitor has been crack open on the front side after I remove the capacitor I put back the ps3 and apply a new thermal paste. The 3 beeps and the blinking red lights gone. The unit turns on the fan is spinning , power led is green but has no display leave the unit turned on for an a hour still no display. The following day I tested the unit again and here comes the the 3 beeps again and turns off then red blinking light. Then I decided to read the syscon and this is what ive got.. Please help.

Furtherly i try to check the NEC Tokin near the RSX this is what I found. I think this is bad and needs to be replace with a tantalum cap right?

PlayStation3 CECH2001A DYN-001 YLOD Problem found! HDMI Chip was the culprit..

I'm very thankful I have found this forum. All the information you need about YLOD Repair is here. You just have to be persistent on reading to be able to find a solution to YLOD problem of your ps3. Thank you very much to all the contributors to this forum for sharing your expertise.

Prior to this I already remove all 4 NEC Tokin and replace with tantalum capacitors.

these are the syscon error logs after removing the HDMI Chip.. No more 3 beeps before shutdown and blinking red.

Then test the PS3 sending syscon command bringup and leave the unit in the bringup mode for almost 1.5hrs and the unit is still working no more overheats the fan is spinning calmly. the tmp 0 and 1 is 58C/59C

Anyone have any suggestions for this one? Have an A01 that was opened but showed no signs of being worked on before. I thought it needed a CELL reballl but after doing a reball it still has A0233020, once it also had A0902120. I see no shorts or anything abnormal in the CELL power circuit. All fuses are good. PSU is good. Its only shown the 902120 error once in syscon but it always shows 233020
