PS3 PS3 Slim shuts off with 3 beeps when launching Red Dead Redmeption.

Hello fellow members of the PSX Place community,

I picked up a CECH-2004a and 2 controllers on FB Marketplace for 28€ which has a disc drive issue, it being the game wont read. A "Technichian" from the Seller tried fixing it but to "no avail" (He lost all the screws holding the 2 Cases together :grumpy:) Nonetheless, that is not the issue im making this thread for.

The issue i have is that when i load up Red Dead Redemption (Digital version), after the "xmb to black screen" transition comes i get met with a instant shutdown and 3 Beeps + blinking Red light. As im writing this the Red light is still blinking. Is this a YLOD slim edition?

What i have done before this issue:
- Dissasembled PS3, delidded the RSX and repasted both the dye and the IHS of both Chips
- Cleaned it off from dust which wasnt really much
- Installed HFW, then used the Flash website from Mr. Aldos tools and then proceeded to install Evilnat CFW 4.91 Beta 10 PEX.
- Downloaded Multiman, Webman, and so on
- In Webman, i set the Fan setting to 35% Manual
- RSX and CPU keep having the same temperatures to each others, which it being ~64-67°C after some good time in XMB and transferring games using IRISMAN.
- When i touch the bottom and the top of the PS3, i can quite feel the heat. Not something I took notice when playing on my Super slim.

Possible causes i have right now:
PS3 is overheating in some way, maybe the Thermal Paste is not applied well (it covers both the IHS but the layer is quite thin, maybe its not tight enough??)
NEC/TOKIN capacitors might be going bad (Please no)
And some specific hardware issues?
I heard from some people it might be a bad CFW edition?

I can kindly give you the error logs if there is another way than the JB Toolset website, which is down currently.
Any help, and any tips in narrowing down the cause is very appreciated!

Wailky

UPDATE:
I cant turn it back on while its blinking, not even with pressing the PS button. So i removed the plug and inserted it back in

Now it blinks red as asual but it will not let me boot it up not matter how much i press and the eject button beeps 3 times.

I have looked these up, saying its some homebrew issue and i really do hope it is.

and about the temps: Im now at CPU 55 and GPU 57 Celsius at 35% fan speed after some 10ish minutes. is this normal or bad?

UPDATE 3#
I installed the CEX BETA 9 version instead. when i enter WebManMOD setup it does it again instantly??

Errors 1601 and 1701 alone are not enough to make a proper diagnose, you need to read the following errors to have the whole picture as you are using very well debugged and fully working homebrew.

Error 2022 indicates a known issue with HDMI: https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Syscon_Error_Codes#2022_(DVE)

I have no apparent issues with my HDMI cable, using it right now and displays 1080p normally. Excuse me but how do I make a proper diagnose? I thought syscon might be enough. Eitherway it's kind of strange it did it again when I launched Webman setup. Is Webmanmod doing issues on this particular system?

Read the error description that I've posted before. There it explains the issue, it has nothing to do with the HDMI cable.

"It is often seen coinciding with 1601/1701, 14FF, 1301, and 3034 in case of Bad GPU (Common). DVE or HDMI Transmitter possible. If so, multiple errors at the same timestamp allow you to distinguish between causes."

What is there to be understood with this? The GPU is failing?

Again, you are not reading the whole thing:

DVE Error (IC2406, CXM4024R MultiAV controller for analog out)

This error may be normal in an otherwise working console. They have been observed in th errorlogs of perfectly operational units and can occur naturally from AV issues.

This error has been observed with no video out using HDMI on a Samsung Smart TV. They reproduced the error by making the TV detect another console first (a PS4), turn off the TV, swap the HDMI cable from the PS4 to the PS3, and turning back on the TV.

This error is also present when the console produces graphical artifacts on the screen. The console freezes and cannot be used, forcing the user to turn off the console. This produces the 2022 error code and is an early sign of GLOD.

It is often seen coinciding with 1601/1701, 14FF, 1301, and 3034 in case of Bad GPU (Common). DVE or HDMI Transmitter possible. If so, multiple errors at the same timestamp allow you to distinguish between causes.

It could be your TV that's causing this issue, the HDMI controller going bad, the CELL not working properly because of race conditions not handled properly, or indeed the GPU failing.

Alright thanks, I'm sorry im just not a professional. I guess I will try hooking it up with the component cables to troubleshoot, even deleting webman perhaps or changing TV/Monitor. I will update as soon as I do further troubleshooting.

What I remember is that when I used a bad hdmi cable, the signal kept going away when switching between XMB and apps, and I always had to switch sources and switch back to ps3 in order to see something on my ps3.

I went to the display settings, tested 720p OK.
Then I did 1080p no signal till I did the source switching thing again
When I did 1080i I believe, I saw glitching/artifacts on the screen which I panicked on and turned the PS3 off

I changed HDMI cable after the cleaning process and the losing signal issue never happened again but I was then met with the issues my thread is about.. Interesting indeed

That could indicate that the HDMI controller on the PS3 is not working properly, but can't say for sure.

Better try another TV and using other cables, maybe it's the HDMI after all.

Yea. But if it's that then it's a generous issue opposed to the GPU failing which was my fear all along

Like I said I will test some troubleshooting tests.

UPDATE 4#
Hahahahah the issue was indeed WebmanMOD. so strange?? Red dead loads fine without it im so glad but so confused LOL

The only thing i used it for is the FPS and temps plugin and setting the fan to manual 35%. Maybe there are incompatibilities with this model!
