PS3 update in recover mode and stuck at 90% and error show

I was thinking......

Can he wipe/format PS3 hdd by PC to clear all data and then try putting hdd back into PS3? That way PS3 will detect hdd as new and may not get stuck on error sectors of old firmware.

Uum yes just connect it via SATA and Format it, easy peasy

CECH2500 - CECH4000 models don't get stuck in update loops because of a bad BD drive as the logic board for them is on the MB, I can remove the BD drive from my CECH4003A completely and it will play and boot apps/games on the HDD just fine. Also installing an NoBD CFW on a console that might not need it can cause issues like the BD drive not working ever again properly...
