Questions about swaping hardrives

So i just recently bought a ps3 fat cechG model used for a fairly cheap price.I plan to jailbreak it of course so i can rejoin the ps3 hacking community.However thats not my issue.You see i have a ps3 fat cechK model with red screen of death that was previously jailbroken on 3.55 kmeaw,and i bricked it with a spoofer somewhere between 2012-2013.So i stayed away from ps3 hacking for quite awhile you see,untill the whole han stuff drew me back in with the 3000 being able to run backups.Anyways i still have the 80gb harddrive from the red screen of death ps3 (aka the cechk model) and i plan to swap the 40gb hdd that my chechG model will have,with the 80gb from the red screen of death ps3.Is this ok to do? I also formated the 80gb hdd since the red screen of death ps3 can still go into recovery mode and do the 5th option,which is to format and restore the ps3,but of course the ps3 reboots to the red screen still but im asuming it also formats the harddrive in the process,which means the 80gb harddrive would still be safe to use on anoughter ps3? Hopefully i can get a answer to this.

Better to take the hdd off, connect to a pc fomat it, and swap it , the ps3 will format it by it self in the recovery mode menu

Well i couldnt find a small enough screw driver to take out the hdd anyway so i jailbroke it with the 40gb hdd and now i have a ps3 jailbroken with rebug dex that i bought for only 40$

Just need help getting my ftp server to connect but for some reason it wont connect.

Install webman mod, it will keep a ftp server running all the time in the background

I did but it still wont connect to ftp but It goes online on psn and everything.Ill try and see what is causing it,if all fails ill try a lan connection.

did you check the ip and port?

I know the ip but how do you find the ps3's port number.I think its because im connecting automaticly.

Edit:Lan seems to work fine on webman.

best to keep a set of tools for things like this. the small gauge ones you might have to find online, but you can get a set of small screwdrivers on ebay for pretty cheap. I even managed to grab some triwing screwdrivers which the Nintendo switch uses.

I remember using a small one to fix the blue ray drive on my nor cechK model but too bad i cant find it right now,or i would of swaped the hdd before jailbreaking.The funny thing is the nand cechg ps3 wouldnt boot on today when i first got it so i asumed i got scammed so i had to take it apart anyway.The problem was the power supply on the left side wasnt connected good enough since all it took was to take it out and plug it back in in order to get it to turn on.

yeah, I lost a small torx security head around my bed area when I got it out for my parents to use. I still can't find it. I think I dropped it or something. not such a big deal really since the only thing I have that use torx security is the xbox 360 controller. even the console itself doesn't use them, just normal torx. lol my big screwdriver can't fit down into the top holes of the controller unless I want to scrape off the paint. I think even then it won't fit in far enough. I usually replace those screws with philip's head screws for this very reason.

I found the screwdriver for the harddrive.I was just wondering what the worst that could happen if i where to swap hardrives now while running dex rebug.

If i choose option 5 in recovery which is to format the ps3 and the hardrive,would it reset my xmb mods or possibly corrupt the nand?Thats why i wanted to swap hardrives before i jailbroke it,but i couldnt find the screw driver till now.

you may have to reinstall the firmware if you reformat, so yeah, you'd lose your xmb mods. you can back them up and restore them if necessary. you can even make a firmware with your mods by using PUAD.
