PS3 Setting information is corrupted

I encountered a rather strange issue. The console displayed the error message "setting information is corrupted" even though I had tried reinstalling using both OFW and HFW. What's odd is that after I verified the update in safe mode, the console didn't automatically restart to begin the installation — instead, it just showed a black screen. I had to manually turn it off by holding the power button until it shut down completely and then turned it back on.
After turning it back on, it brought up the firmware installation confirmation screen. I confirmed it, and it started the installation, but I noticed that when it reached around 37%, it suddenly jumped to 100% instantly, and the screen went black again — just like after verifying the update in safe mode. I manually shut it off and turned it back on, and this time it booted into the XMB, but that's as far as it would go.
I've tried a few different HDDs and BDs, but nothing worked. Has anyone else experienced this kind of error?

Which model is your PS3 exactly? CECH>>?

Settings file is xRegistry.sys. It is placed on HDD on models with NOR memory (you wrote that you exchanged HDD, so this should fix that if indeed registry file was corrupted). On NAND and eMMC models, it lies on that chips, which points that your PS3 dying (bad blocks on NAND in eFlash area).

My model is CECH-200x. At first, I was able to install the OFW normally, but after flashing the memory to install CFW, the console encountered the described issue when I restarted it.
