PS2 [Testers Needed] OPL internal exfat 2TB+ HDD and multi-BDM devices

It seems you are confused with "allocation" vs. "cluster"... :D
Yes, I read that myself on Grimdoomer's GitHub.
Problem is; it wont work any other way for me unless I format the SSD with an allocation unit size of 512K.
Also note; if you look at the YouTube guide, he formatted in the same way and it worked for him.

I could try again although. What would the problem be if I just left it as 512K?
Ah, yes, I see: "Setting the cluster size to 512k WILL cause issues with reading and playing games!"
I will change this to default, like Grimdoomer recommends.
I suspect it wasn't loading games for me at first because I was doing something else wrong.

While I'm here: so the CDs that need to be converted to DVDs also need to be placed in the CD folder?
I ask because it's a bit odd, technically, they are DVDs once they have been converted.

Another question: is it possible to launch GD's OPL directly from the HDD? Or must we load it from the memory card always?

Was I replying to you?? You didn't even get the gist of my comment. Why are you quoting me and reply to someone else?

It isn't "converted to DVD", but to ISO... Rest of the question is hence redundant.

No they are not... You frame your assumptions as if they were factual. Please don't do that.

No, because no app supports exFAT on internal HDD.

Why do you say that CDs are "converted" to DVD?
Curiosity invaded me.
I should have said "changed to ISO" instead.

Just a question about cover art and GD's OPL:
I found it easy using the regular OPL & OPL Manager to get cover art. But, is there a similarly easy way to get cover art for GD's OPL?
I understand I could probably use OPL Manger here but it seems to force the games name to be changed before cover art can be downloaded.
I prefer the naming format of: game name (region)

Yes, they still have the same extension but the size makes the difference.
They should be placed in the "CD" folder.

I have not used the GD version. Would you update me? How are the images renamed in that version?

I ran a test and put the CD based games in the DVD folder and they are running fine on GD's OPL. It might be different to the normal OPL in this respect.

The images are not renamed in GD's version, OPL Manager does that. However, if you put them in OPL Manager it appears as if you have to rename them in order to download art.

Could be.

That's what intrigues me.
Could you tell me how you named the game?
And how should you rename it so that OPL Manager recognizes it?

I prefer to use this format for my games, e.g. "007 - From Russia with Love (USA)"
But, when I put that image into OPL Manager it considers it as an invalid file and will not allow me to download an image for it.
Unless I update the file name to "SLUS_212.82.007 - FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE"

The serial along with the name is the correct way to rename the games although I would omit the symbols in the name.

No, because no other app supports exFAT on internal HDD. Oh wait... Neutrino does! Nothing else beside these 2 though.

Yeah no... SOME CD-based games DO a media-check and will NOT work from the DVD-Folder.

Thankyou for the precious information. I will always put the CD-based games in the CD folder from now on.

You might be able to help me with another thing.
The in game reset (IGR): L1+R1+L2+R2+ Start+ Select
It's working and sending me back to the FreeMcBoot menu but after I reset once and load up GD's OPL again, it will not load games from the HDD list. And it does this each and every time.

Is this a problem on my end or is this like it for other people using GD's OPL?

Edit to add: It appears temperamental for me. Sometimes it will reset fine but most times resetting tends to bug things out. I can't even turn off the system from GD's OPL after I have done the IGR.
I checked this on the regular OPL and it's resetting fine each and every time.

If there's no solution for the seemingly bugged reset, I might try the regular OPL but from a network drive. Does that have the 2TB disc space limitation?
Or a different OPL branch that supports over 2TB and is not bugged.

A further issue I encountered:
I noticed running Final Fantasy 12 with GD's OPL the music was stuttering in the intro cinematic.
So, I tried with the regular OPL; still stuttering and at the same spots.
Then I tried with my original disc, and the music is stuttering as well. The disc is in great condition.
Every other game I have tested plays 100%.

I have no idea what all this means.

I have a PS2 30001
Free McBoot Memory Card
GrimDoomer latest OPL v1.2.0.6-1996 on Memory Card

Does GrimDoomer's OPL have compatibility issues with certain SSD Brands? I cannot get OPL to detect my 1TB and 2TB Crucial BX500 SSD's. I checked my sector size and it's 512k to rule out my USB to SATA adapter causing problems. Formatted to exFat w/ default allocation size. HDD is set to "On" under Block Devices in OPL and copied GTA3 .iso to the root of the DVD folder. I tried multiple SATA Adapters and I cant get any to work with my Crucial SSD's.

I also tried a 2TB Silicon Power A55 SSD, which OPL detects and list's GTA3 under HDD, but sometimes it hangs at a black screen after launching the game. This seems to be random when it happens. I tried running the same game from an exFAT formatted Flash drive and it works fine, I don't recall any hangs at a black screen.

I also tried exFAT formatted 1TB and 2TB Seagate standard hard drives and they work fine. I'm only having issues w/ SSD's. I have tried the latest GrimDoomer OPL v1.2.0.6-1996 on memory card and flash drive. Am I missing something?

Yes, I was using this until I discovered that it's no good for mulit track PS2 games like Dance Factory.
What should I do with multi track PS2 games?

Funny, I just found your post on reddit.
Anyway, I'll just repeat my answers on there:
psx-comBINe or BinMerger
Want to use the GUI ones? CDMage. Don't worry, CDMage works with PS2 bin/cue images too.
