PS3 webMAN MOD - General Information Thread 1.47.48q

I have an external hdd drive formatted as fat32 for a test. I put a small ISO in the PS3ISO folder to run for a test. It will not pick up the ISO, but I can still install regular ps3 packages from that fat32 drive through XMB.
I also did refresh xml and refresh html.

I have updated webMAN MOD 1.43.18 to fix a critical bug reading/copying files from real BD discs where the files were read/copied encrypted (making them useless).

yeah i knew about this when copying from disc was first introduced in webmanmod. I thought it was a problem on my end though and never investigated it LOL

The latest webman 1.43.18 didn't change the situation using fat32 formatted ext hdd with either ISO or JB folder format recognized. I have refreshed xml and html.

(This bug made Backup Disc to hdd0 completely useless)

Thanks to Joonie for his help with this issue.

Hint: Syscall 36 did the trick ;)

Have you modified the category_game.xml recently in the updater? I have noticed a big difference in size but have had no time to look at it...

Yes, I have. Instead of install the "vanilla" version from deank, I include the category_game.xml from my XMBM+ MOD that has a custom Package Manager with a few tweaks.

Great. Looking forward to trying it. However it seems that I need to replace the file manually because the installer doesn't seem to overwrite the existing one... Is there a reason for that?

what situation? Could you explain the issue? I don't have any issue listing games in my external hdd formatted in fat32.

The reason is that the updater tries to not replace the category_game.xml. Instead it tries to update it adding the segment for fb.xml

If it fails updating the xml, then it tries to copying the category_game.xml to dev_flash

I have tried using a formatted drive to fat32 using a small ISO game (225MB), it does not get recognized by webMAN. Tried using a JB/folder format game with webMAN also, does not seem to work with getting recognized. I have tried using webMAN 1.46.16 with these methods. I even tried another webMAN, the new version 1.46.18, can't get the ISO to appear, nor the folder format game.
Listing the ISO and folder under their respective areas with this drive does not seem to work for me when using webMAN 1.46.18 lite even.
I am on 4.76 Rebug Lite using the latest 4.76.00 Multiman too. I have refreshed xml and html too. I can still install pkgs through xmb using this drive under fat32.
Even when I get my ntfs ISO to get recognized in webMAN, I go to launch it and it gives me "error!" every time. I use genps3iso 2.5 for my ISOs that are created.

Understood.
Maybe the problem comes from my category_game.xml file, I had already modified it so that XMBM +, Rebug Package Manager & app_home would show, both in CEX & DEX..

Another quick question about wMM in DEX. If I set my console to DEX mode, rewriting targetID, but keeping the CEX kernel, wMM works seamlessly however if I swap the kernel to DEX, various things happen.
I seem to lose the startup notifications for each plugin on boot & the automatic fan control stops working despite the cpursx page showing everything ok. (Movian also has problems but this is not the thread).
Is this normal?

Is your USB-HDD mounted as '/dev_usb00x/' ?... check it with webMAN/multiMAN file explorer and then make sure u've checked the corresponding checkbox in webMAN settings. (don't forget to press SAVE after changing settings for webMAN)
Your PS3ISO-folder is in root of your USB-HDD ?

I don't think genps3iso 2.5 is the problem... but you can also try PS3 ISO TOOLS to convert. It uses genps3iso 2.5 as well, but u can also choose to use makeps3iso for the conversion.

Rudi already gave you a few suggestions to try. If it still doesn't work, I suggest you go through a process of eliminating possible causes.

In ntfs, you mentioned getting error, what kind of error?

Have you tried your iso on the internal HDD in PS3ISO folder? Same goes for JB in the appropriate folder on dev_hdd0?
This way you make sure that the problem comes from your external drive & not your general setup..

Just like Rudi, I doubt that genps3iso is the culprit however you should also try using Irisman or Gamesonic
See if the game is recognised by it in either iso or jb & use the included utulities to convert your jb to iso or extract your is as jb as you see fit.

Remember you can tweak the USB access times in wMM setup, you might give it a try too eventually.

If nothing works, report & we'll keep brainstorming.... ☺

Edit:
Other ideas?
Have you tried using an older wMM version like the original one that cane with Rebug?

Also have you checked your boot_plugins.txt? There should not be a wMM entry if webman support is enabled in Rebug Toolbox..

You have to swap the kernel to DEX too... Use Rebug Toolbox, it does it automatically.

It is known that genps3iso has issues with certain games like Bayonetta due a rare bug adding folders to the ISO.

lennypenny Test if your issue persists with another backup manager as bguerville suggested.

As I said if I swap the kernel to DEX the problems start. If I keep the CEX kernel all is fine. That's the problem aldo, I am not sure why that is..

Aa for genps3iso, I know sime problems have been reported however I never a single problem myself with over 50 games, for ODE & for CFW, through the years. I used others iso generator including Estwald's utility included in Irisman which seems to do a pretty good job too. It's obly my experience though...

Ah... then you should ask to Joonie and co.

I haven't had issues with genps3iso either (although I don't use it very much. I only convert to ISO the games with +4GB or the ones with a large number of files).
I just wanted to point that genps3iso 2.5 has bugs (a rare one, but it's there). It may be hard to know if the ISO is broken unless you play the ISO and the game tries to access the folder with the bug).

It's a shame that it has that bug (and being closed source we can't fix it). I really prefer genps3iso, but even the bug being a rare issue it makes the tool unreliable.

You are completely right, it's a shame that genps3iso is still closed source. It's the case for a few other brews or dev apps for windows... What's the point by now I wonder.

Anyway yes maybe Joonie can help with the DEX kernel issues on Rebug 4.75.3.
