How far can the PSP go, in terms of emulation power? We have seen alot of progress in the emulation of various PlayStation Homebrew platforms, we have seen recent progress in the PS3 dynarec (see here), we have seen progress with the PS Vita with n64 and dreamcast and even the PS2 has seen its share of improvements to emulation. Now there was a very interesting presentation from a few days ago at the Fosdem 2023 event, FOSDEM "is a free event for software developers to meet, share ideas and collaborate. Every year, thousands of developers of free and open source software from all over the world gather at the event in Brussels." This presentation shows the challenges and also alot of progress Dremcast and NIntendo DS emulation has come on the PSP. Now there is still work to be done but the progress has shown promise and much more then the original PoC's of these emulators early in the PSP Homebrew Scene. Its an interesting presentation that does show the current state of emulating these two platforms on your PSP in 2023.

UPDATE (Re-Download PUP) - via @Evilnat "CFW 4.89.3 updated with Cobra 8.4 by default and xai_updater updated to v1.2 for all versions! It fixes updater package for CEX and DEX."
.Developer @Evilnat has released the much anticipated update to his PS3 CFW with the release of 4.89.3 Evilnat CFW. This update comes with a variety of PUP to choose from and as we been detailing over the past several months there are alot of new features in this custom firmware release from developer @Evilnat , This firmware brings back a lost relic of the scene that was stopped at firmware 4.84 and I am speaking of Rebug REX (the original hybrid of CEX(retail) / DEX (debug) firmware), With no DEX firmware available to the public past 4.84 there was a problem, developer's knew how to create a REX style firmware, they have just been missing the DEX portion since 4.84. Well developer @Evilnat decided he would try and bring 4.84 DEX to 4.89 by porting the firmware and after some trials and error's the developer was able to achieve that goal and now we have Evilnat PEX (& D-PEX) CFW which is a hybrid like Rebug REX..

As we have been telling you since last October developer @Evilnat has been working on an epic PS3 Custom Firmware (CFW) with the upcoming release of 4.89.3 Evilnat CFW. Back in October we were detailing some of the changes coming to the custom xai_plugin that, The custom changes provides many advance features at your fingertips right from the convenience of the XMB, Since that time the developer has added more feature's to the xai_plugin, a plugin that comes embedded in Evilnat's firmware's. On his personal twitter the developer has detailed some of those new functions also many of those can be seen in the official discussion thread for 4.89 Evilnat CFW here as well.
@Evilnat has been working on some big feature's and bringing back an old feature with a new twist!!! Many people know about Team Rebug and the line of cfw's they have created on the PS3, the team is no longer active and one of it's signature PS3 Custom Firmware was Rebug REX, REX was a hybrid firmware that used the Retail (CEX) firmware's and also merged the Debug (DEX) firmware to create REX CFW. This was the preferred CFW type for many. "Why has there not been a REX style CFW since Rebug REX 4.84?" 4.84 was the last publicly available 4.84 DEX. Without a higher version of DEX firmware available there was no possibility for a hybrid of retail & debug firmware. So that got cfw dev @Evilnat thinking about other solutions and the dev wondered if he could just port 4.84 DEX firmware to 4.89.

Well known console developer and hacker Andy Nguyen @theflow0 has released an old project of his for the PS Vita a "WebKit+Kernel exploit chain for all PS Vita firmwares" the exploit works, but the developer never made into a full jailbreak as there really has never been a need. Its just another solution to have around but the most useful part may just be the research for others at this moment. The hacker has made a few comments about the release as we have attached below the quotes and related links to the project. This release is more for the development and developer's who wish to learn more as we already have solutions for the PS Vita and PSTV but the developer does hope to see someone pick up the project and make a full jailbreak out of it. As the developer states it could be a great learning experience for some to finish the project.

The official RetroArch project has been updated to v1.14.0 and with this update a few changes have been adopted for the PS2 port, Thanks to scene developer and RetroArch contributor @fjtrujy (Francisco J. Trujillo) improvements now have been made, recently the developer has been tinkering with the PS2 and not too long ago was trying to add compatibility for OpenGL , as well as trying to adding SDL support (2) (3) for the PS2 , since the dev has taken his attention to PS2 port of RetroArch to provide exFAT (USB) support + support for the newly created PS2 driver's that makes it now much easier for dev's to use the PS2's IO drivers

PS3 PS3 Dynarec support on PicoDrive (Sega 32x & Improved Sega CD) on the horizon from OsirisX

Good news if your a fan of retro emulation and have a jailbroken PS3, as developer @OsirisX has made a bit of a breakthrough for emulation on the PS3. Following OsirisX other emulation release's / contributions like the unofficial PS4 port of RetroArch and the progress of the RetroArch Psl1ght PS3 port The developer is now tackling taking on a new adventure on the PS3. One of the issues on the PS3, has always been the supporting of later generations (the 3d era+) of emulation. While we have seen PS1 / PSP / PS2 emulated on the PS3, they are using the unlocked system's firmware emulator's from Sony,. homebrew emulation has not achieved the same success, without support of a dynarec and the emulators re-written to support such a dynarec on the PS3, user's have been stuck side-scrolling in their Retro experiances. We seen an early example years ago when developer IngPeria released a PoC PS1 emulator (not Sony's firmware one) with dynarec support, but not many other developer's took on the task for any other emulators.
