October is a strong month including multiple Announcements and Releases nearly accross the whole "PlayStation-Platform". And while most of all Gamers outside are already waiting for a announcement of a "PS4 successor", there are also a lot of Gamers who enjoys their Games in a "new Virtual Reality" (literally speaking). Sony already delivered a solution for the PS4 - as you probably heard of it - the PlayStation VR (or PSVR in short). While the sales figures shows that we can speak about the PlayStation VR as a success together with the fact that they are the only manufacturer for consoles allowing Virtual Reality without competition, many Gamers were satisfied about the experience with it. But some of them still had critics which is OK, since the PSVR wasn't perfect. Let's have to be honest. Since it's launch back in 2016, the PSVR still can be seen as a "gimmick" and not as a "PlayStation Replacement". But this isn't because of the lack of power this device can deliver. It is more because the Developers can't handle to deliver the usability for a "AAA Game Title" since your actions and movements are limited. But this could maybe change in Future, according to a new Patent Filing!

PS News "Remastering by emulation" - Sony's (new?) Backwards Compatibility solution?

Emulating older Video Games on newer Platforms aren't a easy task, no question. Although this is one of the most desired features wished by many Users no matter which platform they support, which is of course understandable. A lot of older Game Titles still shares the Charme and Nostalgic feelings, especially when played for the first time back when they got released for their original platforms. And a lot of Users still asks for having the chance to play their older "Classics" even today. They prefer the Original Release compared to "Remastered" Versions for newer platforms or when Console Manufacturers tries to give those previous mentioned feelings back to the users by releasing a "tiny piece of Hardware" with the look of the same old platform but having half the size and calling them "X Mini" or "X Classic". But while Sony does such mentioned things, it seems that they are also still in research for a new solution regarding Backwards Compatibility, as their newest Patent Application suggests.

Maybe you was already wondering. Today we already have the 21st of September and there is still no Progress Report from August available? But don't worry, the great Team behind RPCS3 didn't forget to keep you updated. Actually, the reason is very simple why they kept you uninformed which was even worth to wait. Not only that a lot of AAA Game Titles saw huge improvements in playability, they also crossed multiple new milestones. RPCS3 now supports over 1000 (in words: "ONE THOUSAND") Game Titles which are fully playbale! Yes you read it right. How amazing is that? And it's getting even better. When we look into the same Month's Progress Report from last year, RPCS3 supported roughly 400 Game Titles fully playable, which was very good as well back in that day. But getting more than double of Game Titles fully playable in only 12 months shows how strong this Emulator and it's Developers behind this Project are. So before you need to wait any longer because of this introduction, here are the updates.
PS3 RPCS3 (PS3 Emulator) - July 2018 Progress Report

Here we are again folks. The Team behind RPCS3 are showing again that the "Emulation from PS3 Games" are still a thing with it's newest Progress Report for July 2018. Last Month we saw a huge progress in allowing PS1 Classics Support through Emulation. But this time they searched for a new challenge. One of the advantages of Emulating PlayStation Titles on a PC was always that both a higher Output Resolution and a higher Framerate can be achieved through several Game Titles. The same applied for Emulating PS2 Game Titles as well through PCSX2, when you are able to emulate dozens of PS2 Titles in HD Resolution or even higher. PS3 Game Titles sees those similar potentials as well, so the Team tried this out and claims that it can even "Outperform a physical PS3" by emulating a Game in 4K Resolution. Which Game this it can be found down below.
PS News Why there is no Homebrew for the PS4 (and why they won't be any in the future)?

Okay, the Title says it all. But before you leave, let's face the truth. Since the developers were able to achieve several Kernel Exploits on different System Firmwares, their goal was to give you a "platform" where you can develop and/or enjoy your Homebrew Applications running on your own PS4. But instead of making your PS4 a "useful Gaming Machine" - to get out more of your PS4 with several new Features even Sony can't deliver - the side effect is that many people doesn't care about Homebrew and that Piracy is the only thing which counts on all "hacked" PS4's, which is very sad. I know for myself that this Thread here can't give you a solution for this problem and I know as well that this discussion isn't new and that there was already some Threads about that on both this Forum and on Twitter. But I would like to analyze and discuss this with you and maybe someone has some ideas what could be done better in the future.

Well, well! You (probably) already heard about the several PlayStation Developer Wikis like for the PS3 and the PS4, but also for the handheld consoles like PSP and PSVITA, with it's strong communities and useful information for each wiki. But while the actual Console Generations were already satisfied with their own wikis, there was something missing. If you wanted to get some informations about older Sony Consoles, then we had to be honest - your informations kept very short. But since we speak about the "past tense form" from "has", the lack of useful information could change with your help. Thanks to the well-known user @GregoryRasputin, you can now contribute to a PS1 and PS2 DevWiki! Yeah, that's right. Sony's both first released home consoles are getting it's own dedicated wikis and everyone is welcome to contribute.

Well, this time it didn't took long since the last Progress Report. And since the last month showed us that more and more PS3 Game Titles getting supported for this Emulator (which is very good as well), this month the Great Team behind RPCS3 anoounces in their newest Progress Report for June 2018, that they gained the ability to run PS1 Classics via RPCS3! Yes you read it right, PlayStation 1 Game Titles running via RPCS3. Althought that they already previewed this achievement a few weeks before and the fact that only those named "PS1 Classics" from the PlayStation Store will be able to run on RPCS3 due to software limitations from the original PS1 Emulator on PS3, it is still great to see what's actually possible throught Emulation by "Emulating a PS1 Game on a emulated PS3". Now after you read this last sentence, imagine the Inception Horn is ringing in your mind. :)

Maybe you were already wondering (or shouting) like: "Hey, where is my updated Progress Report for my beloved PS3 Emulator this month?!?!" Don't worry, that Project isn't closed. In fact, for this monthly Update, the Great Team behind RPCS3 showcased a lot of small but major improvements in emulating PS3 Game Titles for your PC. A lot of "AAA exclusives" were able to getting started for the first time! You can't play them 100% flawlessly (yet) but the past updates already showed that this is just "a matter of time." The software itself saw some improvements as well and the Team is pleased to announce that there are still new contributors, who joined them and making huge improvements. This is great to see that there is still such a huge interest behind this project. Maybe you are interested to join them as well?

After the first announcement for a Kernel Exploit incoming for System Firmware 5.05, Developer @SpecterDev "has been true to one's word" by releasing the announced Kernel Exploit (PS4 Hack) for System Firmware 5.05 (& 5.07). This is some Great News not because of a newer System Firmware is now exploitable, but it could be a giant stride towards great evolution for getting more and more Homebrew Applications available - as already previewed before. Those mentioned "Tools" weren't fully released yet by the time of this writing but a full release should be available in the near future. This Release however also includes several Payloads and other useful Patches, as you can check them down below.
RPCS3 (PS3 Emulator) - April 2018 Progress Report

Maybe you had it already recognized but the last few days and weeks, the PS4 had it's priorities regarding several highlights like from various Kernel Exploits for several newer System Firmwares or even from a preview for a new "Framework" for making things easier in Future by getting more Power to all Functions within the PS4. We know that you won't get tired about the latest and greatest News for the PS4 but there are also other Consoles made by Sony, who deserved your attention as well - so as it is for it's predecessor the PS3. And maybe even when you can enjoy your Backups and Homebrews on the latest System Firmware available for the PS3, it doesn't mean that the Developers are stopping to "tinker" with the Console or that there is nothing more left to explore. So as the Team behind the "RPCS3 PS3 Emulator" doesn't by updating their monthly "Progress Report" for April 2018.
